There is a process you have to follow.
Cricket has to be played in over 100 countries in 5 continents, even bodybuilding a sport that is popular in over 100 countries and every continent in the world can't get accepted into the Olympic fold.
When this has been accepted. It will become an exhibition sport, then a demonstration sport and if it gets final approval an Olympic sport.

Cricket is a game played in only few countries and as such it is not a popular game in majority of countries. That is the reason why it is not included in the olympic. There were rumours that ICC are trying to get cricket included in the Olympics. But I do not know how far they will succeed in their efforts.

Ah, does my heart good to see complete idiots like jay try to answer a question.
It's probably because:
1) Cricket is a sport known for high incidences of cheating, throwing games, etc.
2) Cricket matches are really long. Most Olympic events are on the order of minutes per country, cricket would be hours.

I don t think theres a good reason. Its the most popular sport in india, the country with the second highest amount of people in the world, the cricket world cup is the second most popular non olympic international sporting event second only to to the soccer world cup. The only real reason may be because it would be hard to find venues. Most countries don t have cricket venues, you would need multiple venues, because you would need to play some matches at the same time probably.

Too many participating countries not cricket-playing, size of cricket pitch and number of pitches required make it impractical, if not impossible for many hosting countries. Same reasons, I imagine, why polo went out in 1936

they tried it at a commonealth games once and it bombed!!
Poor crowds etc...now if cricket is a primarily commonwealth sport, it would go down even worse at an olympic games (luckly rugby 7's went better and its still played at the commonwealth games!!)
