Race wouldn't be a problem but Dingle is in a gealtacht area. this means the schools in the area all teach through irish. your kids would need to speak good irish if they were entering school at a class from first class up or go to a school outside the area. you may be better finding a home slightly further from the area if schooling is a problem.

In dingle, you will probably be about the only black person living there. but it does get alot of tourists. I suggest taking a fact finding holiday here before you actually commit to moving. If your coming from a big city, you'll probably find a place like dingle very rural (and possible quiet in the winter) but kerry is a lovely part of the country and people are very friendly. Galway is a great city too on the west coast (with quite a large black community now). Places i'd stay away from are limerick city, dublin and tralee in kerry.

there are lots of black people in ireland, galway, cork and dublin would probably be the best places to live for a while when you first move over. you will find plenty of work in these cities. but dublin is so expensive to live and you would prob have to live a good distance from the city to find any kind of decent house to rent that dosent cost a small fortune. galway is such a beautiful city not half as expensive and you shoudnt have any trouble finding work there. i think people are friendlier there also because it is a lot smaller city. make sure you are prepared for a cold wet winter best spent in front of the fire in local pub with all the new friends you will made over here. good luck. hope it works out well for you.

Ireland is changing all the time Dublin and Belfast are increasingly becoming more global and metropolitan. in dingle you probably wouldnt even be given a double look, anyway were too laid back to really care, you might get a few nosey parkers asking you questions about yourself but nothing too personal just "so whereabouts are ya from" type questions. there are plenty of black irish born and bred people anyway you wont be greeted as a two headed monster.

I don't know if there are many black people in dingle or any for that matter but here in Dublin there are plenty. It is very multicultural here. quite expensive to live in though. I am sure you will find a job if you are not too fussy about what you do and if you have some skills. Employment is high here. The minium wage is €8.50/hour. Here are some helpful websites to look at:

www.oasis.gov.ie

www.loadzajobs.ie

Good luck with your decision and your move.

No, you would not be the only black person there. Read on...

It is Ireland's high standard of living, high wage economy and EU membership that attract many migrants from the newest of the European Union countries: Ireland has had a significant number of Romanian immigrants since the 1990s. In recent years, mainland Chinese have been migrating to Ireland in significant numbers. Nigerians, along with people from other African countries have accounted for a large proportion of the non-migrants to Ireland.

It's a beautiful country. I'm sure I'd enjoy it there. Good luck to you!

Maybe not Dingle because it is in the back of beyond and probably to be honest there will not be many black people living around, just farmers with strong Kerry accents! Maybe closer to one of the cities like Galway or Waterford (which are still very nice)?

Having spent some time in Dingle as a single woman, I would strongly advise against moving there, as the local men tend to regard single women as fair game, and the local women tend to regard single women from outside as hussies and won't help them (much). Nice when you're a tourist, but that's a whole different take on the place.

Colour is not an issue over here my friend. Dingle is quite a small town but really beautiful. Ireland, North and South is a lovely place I think you may need to broaden your horizions. If you can look up the "Discover Ireland" website. It may give you some ideas. From a quite simple, humble man from Belfast, you will be most welcome.
