1. We (LDS women) are not denied the priesthood. When we go to the temple we become priestesses - same level as our husband. The reason we don't EXERCISE our priesthood is this: We are able to bear children. This is a gift that men do not have. If women have responsibility for bearing and nurturing children AND for administering the priesthood, then what use would we have for men (apart from being sperm donors)? I believe Heavenly Father and Mother keep it this way to share responsibility/blessings evenly.

2. The Mormon church is compassionate towards people who have same-gender attraction, but the Bible is clear about the sinfulness of same-sex sexual relations. Just as heterosexuals must control their sexual desires, and obey the laws of sexual purity, so must homosexuals, if they wish to obtain spiritual blessings.

3. Hmmm. Perhaps many Mormons are overweight due to a love of chocolate. Many people (such as myself) have an inate tendancy to addiction. The fact that temple-attending Mormons won't drink tea, coffee, alcohol or smoke cigarettes leaves limited scope for the exercise of an addictive personality.

Another reason why LDS women might be overweight could be having multiple children... It is very hard to lose weight when breastfeeding, I can tell you... you just get so hungry!

Mormons are supposed to exercise wisdom in their health choices, but often people are not as dedicated to the study and practice of their religion as they could be - It is a hard job to do. Many aspects involved in being a good Mormon, and we're all learning.

As for being poor, in my experience (in Australia), in my ward, I only know of one or two families who could be classified as "poor" (I'm one of them). Most Mormons I know are quite comfortably financed, as we are taught about how to manage finances at church. However, perhaps you many LDS have low incomes because many mothers choose to stay home to raise their children. That is the case for me (but not for long... I'm getting a job soon.)

I think the predeliction for taking prescription drugs is unfortunate. I am a Mormon who believes in using natural and spiritual methods for overcoming depression, but many Mormons don't research enough on this topic, and so don't realise how harmful prescription drugs can be.

4. I haven't heard about this one (the idea to build a Mall). I'm sure they have their reasons.... perhaps you could give us a link with the info?

1. Mormon women are not denied the Priesthood, they are EXEMPT from the Priesthood. I am a Priesthood holder. As a Priesthood holder, I have several responsibilities of service and other work oriented things as well as the blessings of the Priesthood. Women are able to have the blessings of the Priesthood from worthy husbands, fathers, home teachers, etc. However, because of the responsibilities they have in the home (see The Family: A Proclamation to the World) they are exempt from the responsibilities of the Priesthood - they have their own set of responsibilities.

Daisykristina is right... Although I'm not sure I like the way she phrased it, she's right and I can accept that...

2. Again, see previously referenced The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Same-sex marriage is not conducive to God's original plan for us on Earth - you may note that one of the original commandments given to Adam and Eve was (paraphrase) to "Be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the Earth." A couple of the same gender obviously cannot multiply and have children.

3. part 1... Because Mormons make up a percentage of the population, and over 50% of the world is over-weight. Your religion does not determine your weight... Yeah right. I can see it know, a teenage girl goes to her friend and says "Whoa, you've gained weight" and the other girl says "Yeah, I went to church... better work it off..." Obviously this is STUPID!!!! The better question would be "Why are so many people overweight?

part 2... This is just a flat-out lie. The only good Mormons who are on drugs are as proscribed by doctors.

part 3... Because we aren't selfish. We have enough to support ourselves, and we give the rest to help the poor. (See the NT... don't remember the exact reference, but it is the part where Jesus tells the people about all the things they've done for him, and then he says "As you've done it unto the least of these, thou hast done it unto me" or something to that effect)

4. See daisykristina's answer.

First I should say that I am not a Mormon.
Worthy women are denied the priesthood because the church figures that the priesthood belongs to men. (The Bible says otherwise. All the people at Peter wrote to in his epistles are saved people and he tells them that they are a priesthood and are a chosen generation.)
2. The Mormon chruch and the Historical Christian church would not be anti-gay as such. They would love the people, but not what they are involved with. It would follow the teachings of the Bible on this topic.
3. For a church that is so health concious, this is a paradox to be sure. Have you studied the phenomenon of depression in the Mormon women. It is a fabulous read as to why they are so depressed. The church gives them a task that is so big that they can't do it.
4. I don't know about this one.

1. Until the Lord proclaims otherwise, which He hasn't, women cannot hold the priesthood.

2. The teachings of the Church are against the practicing of homosexuality.

3. Speak for yourself. I know a few overweight Mormons where I attend, but they are the exception, not the norm. I am not overweight except for five or ten pounds I could lose. I'm not rich, but I'm doing well on my retirement pension and I have never done illegal drugs in my life.

4. I haven't been appraised of the new mall, but the answers given previously by Daisy and Divinity seem to be on target.

Last, you can always find something to complain about the Mormon Church because that is your desire to be negative. That is unfortunate for you.

1.I have never asked for the priesthood therefore I have never been denied. I already receive the blessings of the priesthood through my husband. I am too busy taking care of my baby and home to run around with all the responsibilities of having the priesthood. I like when my man uses his priesthood authority, very sexy!
2. I have gay friends! I am not ANTI gay!
3. Overweight? Women are women! NO matter what their religion. Silly! Multiple drugs? Well if they are that is news to me! They must keep it a big secret! Poor? Actually our church teaches people to be self reliant! And to get a good education! Aslo the church has it's own welfare system so don't worry about any poor mormon using you tax dollars :D
4. SO we can go shopping?! Thanks for reminding me I have to buy diapers tomorrow!

"We have learn those passages and their related passages for a long time. We have noticeable what the phrases say and feature stated to ourselves, "Yes, it says that, however we need to learn out of it the taking of the gospel and the advantages of the temple to the ***** humans, on the grounds that they're denied distinctive matters." There are statements in our literature by way of the early Brethren that we have got interpreted to intend that the Negroes could now not obtain the priesthood in mortality. I have stated the identical matters, and humans write me letters and say, "You stated such and such, and the way is it now that we do such and such?" All I can say is that it's time disbelieving humans repented and acquired in line and believed in a dwelling, latest prophet. Forget the whole lot that I have stated, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whoever has stated in days beyond that's opposite to the reward revelation. We spoke with a constrained know-how and with out the sunshine and expertise that now has come into the arena. We get our reality and lightweight line upon line and principle upon principle (two Ne. 28:30; Isa. 28:nine-10; D&C ninety eight:eleven-12; 128:21). We have now further a brand new flood of intelligence and lightweight in this unique discipline, and it erases the entire darkness and the entire perspectives and the entire ideas of the beyond. They do not topic anymore. It does not make a particle of change what any one ever stated approximately the ***** topic earlier than the primary day of June 1978. It is a brand new day and a brand new association, and the Lord has now given the revelation that sheds gentle out into the arena in this discipline. As to any slivers of sunshine or any debris of darkness of the beyond, we put out of your mind approximately them. We now do what meridian Israel did whilst the Lord stated the gospel will have to move to the Gentiles. We put out of your mind the entire statements that constrained the gospel to the condominium of Israel, and we begin going to the Gentiles." Elder Bruce R. McConkie

Hey, I'm LDS, I of course can't speak for the whole church or every member, but I can give you my little point of view.

1) Women already have special abilities given them to love, nurture and serve others, men have to learn it through practice - that's why they need the priesthood - to be able to catch up with us.

2) It's actually not considered a sin to have same gender attraction feelings (which is being gay) but just to ACT on those feelings - pretty common in many Christian religions.

3) I can only speak for myself here since I'm not sure where you can find the world wide demographic stats on this, but I'm on the skinny side, I'm not currently taking any medications, and I'm not rich, but I'm not poor.

4) The "new mall" is part of a huge revamping of downtown Salt Lake City. Since church headquarters is there, there's an obvious motivation to keep it nice and not let it turn all slummy (Would the Catholic Church let Rome get slummy?) When this renovation of downtown was announced at General conference, Gordon B. Hinkley made it clear that it would not be done through any tithing funds, just the generous contributions of individuals.

Thanks

I am male and will answer your first question, as it was the one that got my attention.

Men and women are differenet. It does not take only a social scientist to observe that. We have distinct physical features, emotional features, etc.

Only women can bare children. Outside of Hollywood, men cannot become pregnant and carry children. It is obvious then that we, men and women , have different God given roles.

I believe that woman "naturally" have a better capacity to love, nuture, care for, and extend love and compassion to others. Likewise, Jesus Christ has these same qualities of compassion and carrying for others. He gave his life for others, the ultimate way to show love and compassion for others.

Men as a whole need help in learning and aquiring these qualites, where as women seem to have them more readily or more inately.

In his wisdom, God saw that this is so, and therefore created the "preisthood" as a means to require men to serve others, to help others, to learn those qualities I have mentioned.

The priesthood then, is not some big "advantage" over women that men have, but reather a means for men to aquire and gain some things some characteristics, some qualities that women already have. Women are ahead of men in this regard. The priesthood is to help men catch up.

The priesthood is not some special men's club, but rather a vehicle that requires men to serve others, to help others, to be compassionate upon others. The priesthood is a tool to teach men to serve.

1. Because God said no. Good enough for me (I'm a Mormon woman).

2. Homosexual behaviour is the same as any sexual behaviour outside marriage between a man and a woman. God did not design man/man or woman/woman. And if one believes they were "born that way", that doesn't mean that they have to act on their baser instincts.

3. How do you know this is the case? Cause I don't see it, myself. And I am pretty sure that I know more Mormons than you do.

4. Why not? Why not make DownTown Salt Lake a nice place?

Why are worthy men of any religion denied the ability to give birth? There are different roles for men and women.
