I mean... clearly, Bush wouldn't have offered the job if he didn't think the guy was in his corner... and it turns out that even the people he thought was in his corner says stuff like:

One of those who spurned the job, retired Marine Gen. John J. "Jack" Sheehan, was outspoken about his reasons for turning it down.

"The very fundamental issue is, they don't know where the hell they're going," said Sheehan, a former top NATO commander. Sheehan said he believes that hawks like Vice President Cheney have more influence in the White House than those looking for a way out of Iraq. "So rather than go over there, develop an ulcer and eventually leave, I said, 'No, thanks.' "

I mean... this guy was a general, marine no less... I would think he knows what he's talking about...

I find this much more disturbing than just the daily banter back and forth by politicians who are POLITICIANS and seem to know little about war...

This is just another of many reflections of reality that are being ignored by this Republican Administration and the never die Bush supporters. It is tragic that the mess continues until it will die of empty rhetoric. We just won't have anything more to say because it's already been said and the war continues. This sadly ill equipped President cannot even put together a basis for winning ... what are our young men and women being killed and wounded for?
Neither President Bush or his backers, i.,e., Senator Mccain, and a few other right wing republicans can tell us what we're going to win if we win.

Iraq is a mess. The problem right now is what to do with it. We can't pull out...just look what happened to the Iraqi Parliment while we are still there. Setting a timeline just lets all the terrorists to know we will be out at the set date. They'll just what and cause chaos when we leave. So the only option we have there is basically stay and hope the surge does its job. We've already seen civilian casualties start dropping and I hope it continues.

I heard there were 3 retired generals who turned down
the War Czar offer. I can remember Bush calling himself the
'war president'. I don't think Bush realizes that by being the
commander in chief, he is the War Czar.
All of the pieces are falling into place & still, there are
those who refuse to see.
It is very disturbing.

I'm laughing all the way to the polls next election! Can't wait for him to leave the White House and we get someone in there that knows what they are doing and without an attitude of arrogance.

Yes it sure does concern me. So much I am trying to talk my 18 yr. old into NOT going to the marine corp. Scares me to death when a General feels a major problem. Lord Have Mercy On Us All.

No, because I don't need somebody to state the obvious for me, my brain still works perfectly. Conversely, I don't have to shoot myself in the arm to know it hurts, some things you just know.
