i have a 92 Plymouth laser and i think the head gasket may be gone there is a lot of pressure from the rad cap when i have the vehicle running for about 5 min. i took a compression test and theres 175 pounds per cylinder. (vehicle is a 4 cylinder) there is no antifreeze in the oil or none comming out of the tail pipe. but the rad isn't in the best of shape could it just be the rad causing the pressure? or what?

if it's building pressure right away its probably the head gasket or the head is cracked. if its not building till the car is warmed up it could be the radiator. open the cap with the car cold and start the engine. if you see bubbling it's a bad head or gasket. good luck

Ok well first off lets make sure you are dooing your compression test right. First disable the fuel system so you get a not start, but cranking condition. Second secong take your plug wire and plug out, install the compression tester fitting. Thirdly HAVE SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES YOU GET IN THE CAR AND CRANK THE ENGINE, make sure they have the throttle fully open. Crank the engine 6 times and take your first and last reading. Those are the only two that really count. Also you may want to check the condition off your plugs, pretty much just make sure there are no white cruddy deposits. Aslo one other way to figure out if you have a cracked bloxk or head is to do a cylinder leak down test. If you want to now how this is done let me know. I odnt wanna type it all out if you dont want it. Also when is that last time you had the rad fluid changed. That stuff gets a bit acidy over time if left in ther too long, and that can eat away at a head or other things to, make sure your rad fluid is flowing freely to.

If the cooling system is almost pure water it could just be boiling.
You're not getting 175psi out of that motor. Something is off on your compression check. A shop will have a device that can tell you if you have combustion gases in coming out of the radiator.
A blown head gasket might hold pressure for a compression check, but that doesn't mean it's not going to leak when you have 5,000psi in there while the engine is running.

If there's no antifreeze in the oil I would say that the head gasket is not blown. My guess would be the radiator is plugged.

No, your head gasket sounds fine.... if the radiator pressure is too much it could be a partially clogged radiator, I would flush the system and go from there.

an don't make any comment like"is a blown head gasket" or You will end up paying for a non-existing matter

I doubt it if it is holding 175psi in each cylinder. the cap creates pressure itself to prevent coolant from boiling. it most likely something in the coolant system.
