Wow! What a great amount of money you have to spend. Being a former teacher, I can say, we love being appreciated by our students and any heart-felt gift is great.
Some suggestions; a gift certificate at a nice store, a big bouquet of spring flowers in a nice vase, or a briefcase with her initials on them.

In the old days... and it is almost mythical now; the student brought an apple for his/her favorite teacher. Of course, today it does ot seem like much? But the age old tradition would show your respect and might get a big smile from your teacher. Take time and find the biggest reddest and most perfect apple you can. Then polish it up nicely with a soft cloth, and make sure you do a final polish to take away any fingerprints just before you hand it to him/her.

I can't speak for Mrs. Gully, but having experienced a wide array of gifts from students, I can tell you that a heartfelt card is more valuable than any material gift.
However, if you truly want to spend money to express your appreciation of this inspirational teacher, I suggest a $25 gift card to a local bookstore. Then ask Mrs. Gully for a list of her most highly recommended books, and spend the remaining $75 on developing a personal library inspired by your favorite teacher.
If you don't like the idea of a gift card, please don't add to her yard sale collection of coffee mugs, candles, and shower gels. :)

if this is a gift just from you, don't spend more than $20 on her.
Personally I've always given my son's teachers gift certificates to book stores because it fits inside a card and the other students don't know what the teacher got.
If gift certificate to something you think your teacher might enjoy is just not your style, a gift basket of lotions, body wash, etc is nice from a store like Bath and Body - if your teacher's a female that is.
Another gift basket idea might be to fill the basket with coffee goodies - packets of gourmet coffee, a travel mug, creamer, etc. (Good if you know for sure your teacher likes coffee, this one is good for either male or female).

Glad you've enjoyed your year with Mrs. Gully. Many schools have a policy about gifts, and they are really serious about not getting into serious gift giving. If you want to give a small token, that's fine, but keep it small, keep it simple. Bear in mind that there are 30 other kids in class, and she teaches every year, so that adds up to hundreds of knick-knacks and gadgets. A pound of very special coffee, a box of chocolates, a package of specialty cookies (all of which can be consumed and which don't have to be dusted) all make welcome gifts. But the most meaningful thing you could give her is a simple card that says thank you, and tells her how much you have enjoyed the year, and how much you have learned from her.

A 100 is a lot to spend.
But, if your heart is in it, then you could fix a basket w/ a night out on the town theme:
2 movie passes
2 gift certificates to a reasonable priced restaurant
and if money is left over:
spend it at a local office supply place on things for her room, or a pen w/ her name on it.

First of all, make sure the amount you spend is appropriate. $100 from one student may be a little too much. If it is a group gift, then its okay. Gift certificates are always welcome - a little treat that they wouldn't otherwise use on themselves - be it a Day Spa, Dinner Theatre or something of that nature. If you don't wish something like that, discover what her hobbies and interests are and work around that. Forget the bath bubbles and such - I'm sure she gets plenty of that during the holidays. Good luck!

Teachers tend to spend a lot of money out of pocket. No need to spend that much on her, what I would suggest is to go to one of the education stores, or Office supply type store and purchase things that she can put up for next year. i.e. if she is a history teacher get some posters of timelines, science get her some experimental type equipment, etc. or a gift card. If you want to personalize it, maybe get her a plaque to hang in her room with some of her famous sayings or quotes.

How sweet you are! I would suggest not spending $100 though because it is such a big amount from one student. If she likes coffee, a gift certificate to a Starbucks is always nice, or a gift certificate to a book store.

I agree with the others. Please don't spend that much unless it is a gift from the class. Small tokens given from the heart mean much more. I always, always appreciate stationery. I write thank you notes for all gifts received, and that adds up to about 40 - 50 notes at Christmas and the end-of-the year. So, thank you notes, cards, etc. are great.
