i currently hv broadband on my pc with a speed of 2.7mbp. for eg. if i buy a router with the lowest speed will that change the speed of my broadband?? it shouldnt right cos thats the speed im given.

Unless the speed of the router is lower than your broadband speed it will not matter.

If your router is slower than your broadband then the maximum connection speed will be the speed of the router.

Even the cheapest routers these days are 802.11g which gives a WLAN speed of 54Mbs (but your internet connection will be the speed of your broadband).

Standard 802.11g wireless router have a maximum throughput of 54Mbps.

Advance routers (802.11n) are capable of more than 54Mbps throughput.

With your current broadband speed of 2.7Mbps, you can do very well w/ 802.11g. Do not get the old and cheap 802.11b or else your range would be limited.

The router will not change the speed of your broadband connection.

And I don't know of any routers that can't handle 2.7 mbps

I'm going to guess that the difference in wireless routers is the wireless standard(s) they support. 802.11b/g/n
