Its easier and quicker to write, especially in situations like instant messaging, which is basically a way to hold a casual conversation on the Internet. They often seem to be ways to express emotions that are missing in face to face meetings. Plus I think they grew to set the culture of Internet communication apart from the rest of the world, the Internet's form of slang.

Well first of all it is faster than tyoing out actual words.
And also LOL, ROFL and LMAO are ways to express humor.
I mean if some sends you a joke or something over Instant Messanger, you say LOL... If you didn't use computer lingo, what would you say? "I think your joke is funny!" <--- that just sounds lame.

It is honestly an easy way to communicate quickly. We are very oriented on speed now-a-days. This may not be the best of habits, but it is an acceptable one. Hope this helps.

its so much simpler. like for instance, laugh out loud takes so much longer to type then lol.

besides, simple acronyms aint nothing. wait until you start seeing 1337 speak. that gets confusing.

Wouldn't it also look silly if you type out.
"Laughing-out-loud."
Than Lol?
