These are rather questionable choices.

1. Independent assortment is responsible for variation, and CROSSING OVER during synapsis helps with variation, not just the synapsis itself.

2. Homologous chromosomes are NOT IDENTICAL because they can have different alleles for their genes. They do control the same traits, but they certainly don't have to agree what they say about the trait.

3. During synapsis the homologous pairs of chromosomes line up together, but they were homologous even when they were scattered around.

4. No question that this one is true.

Synapsis refers to the process of separation of homologous chromosomes which had got joined at place(s) during crossing over.
hence 3rd statement is wrong and should be the other way round.

Well the 1st one is CORRECT b/c synapsis is when the chromosomes cross over with eachother an d share eachothers genes.. Im thinking is the 3rd one that is wrong b/c that is not what synapsis does, so yeah im pretty sure #3 is WRONG
