Arcadia, I think you forgot to read the word POTENTIAL in my question. I am not talking about the near future, but later on, judging by the talent that they have, what is your opinion?

Yes, most definitely, if more money/support was thrown their way for development. I think more money/support and encouragement should be given to all the "minnow" countries to help develop their cricket. It's a fantastic game and it would be great to see these countries playing regularly and not seen as just part timers.

Certainly not in the near future, but certainly at some point they may be a test nation. I mean if you look at them now, yes they pulled of a miraculous victory over a disjointed Pakistan side, but other sides have pulled of shock victories in World Cups, Kenya got to the semi's last time as many of you may recall, but they are nowhere near close to being a test nation. When the ICC grants country's test status, they do it on the basis of their stability as a cricketing nation, and on this basis, perhaps Ireland have a chance, but on talent, they're light years behind the others, I even expect Bangladesh to give them a pasting to be honest. The problem though is finding players in their own country. They have to find decent players from their own province. Look at their captain, he's an Aussie for god's sake. It can't fill you with hope either when the best Irish cricketer they have is playing for England.

Sadly No. They have one very well to get where they are, but there is not enough of a setup in Ireland to support a test team. They have people who are taking time off their jobs to play cricket, it's another thing entirely to earn a living playing cricket, which you have to do as a test player. I could see a time in the near future when they play regular ODI's but, let's face it. They are gonna finish in the bottom two of the super 8's and have pretty much been defeated convincingly in the other games they have played.

Potentially, Yes.
But - the interest in Ireland with regards to Cricket would have to increase - this may do so as a result of this campaign.
Remember - they have beaten Pakistan and drawn with Zimbabwe in ODIs, it is much harder in a test match and would certainly get slaughtered by any test playing nation at the moment, thats without being disrespectful.
As long as they keep improving, lets hope one day yes they can become a test playing nation

properly, i've got been residing in Nepal for truly it sluggish now. So, i could desire to make certain them upward push in the process the ranks yet as massive D!ck stated, realistically its the eire who deserve the main. Nepal is at present in Sri Lanka to play 5 prepare suits for the rising Cup and that i hear they have lost the 1st 3 suits against Sri Lanka U-23 and Sri Lanka has performed purely 2 worldwide gamers, one in each and every of them being Akila Dhananjay. That tells their tale. Afghanistan could be the group to seek for in destiny.

Nope, no chance. Not in the near future anyway. One surprise win in a one day competiton doesn't indicate that they are anywhere near even close to competant enough to play proper test cricket.

Holland and Kenya both have had shock wins in the World Cup in the past...are they any closer to playing test cricket?

100 years ago cricket was Irelands no 1 sport and was played by the majority of able bodied people. it was only the fact that the people boycotted it due to forced brittish rule that they stopped playing it.
