i have an 88 wrangler it failed the smog test..almost everything failed..how much would i be willing 2 spend on fixing this up?..and should i go 2 a legit place or any mechanic shop

What part of the test did you fail? That should be an indicator of what area's need attention...any good tuneup shop in your area can give you an idea of what repairs are likely needed and cost. Check with AAA for shops they recommend in the area in you're uncertain. Also, some staes will give you a waiver after you spend a certain amount of money to bring the vehicle into compliance.
You'll have to judge whether the repairs outweigh the value of an older vehicle like this or would it be better to buy a different vehicle. Paul
