The next big event in human history-- the extinction of mankind through the operation of unbridled, many-directioned folly-- will probably go unnoted and unmourned. Whether global warming-- earth heating up like a microwave-- famine or plagues, will we become long-term victims of our own short-sightedness? Even if we leave as our lasting heritage sentient robots and computers able to remain intact in an oven-like atmosphere, it seems doubtful that these machines will take the time to sit down at the keyboard and write an obituary to late, great mankind's demise.
Such as: " 'Homo sapiens' means 'wise man'...The logic of that, no robot can understand!...No matter how long he stayed in college...His ignorance always exceeded his knowledge!... To short-term thinking men were bred.. So, in the long run, they're all dead!"
Maybe robots will build a museum on the Moon for Man, carve an obit on the front, and go home to the Earth they inherit by our demise. Comments?

Epitaph for mankind, perhaps noted by some future race of space travellers: "It didn't have to be this way."

we face many perils, but one thing that I know of humans and life is its very nice ability to adapt.so......no..we will not go extinct...but...our population will most prob be greatly reduced, yes, and if we ever developed sufficiently advanced technology to create robots that you describe....we would have uploaded our identities to similar machines or sentient evolved biological entities (yes, instead of starting a stupid war of machines and humans... if we developed such advanced technology, we would have enhanced our brains with machinary as well...making a brain-machine synergy...machines will be us, and we will be machine...so it will just enhance...us...there will be no ...them and us, it makes more sense we will have the same ability as robots by the time we invent robots with our ability...) that can survive the climate changes on Earth (through forced evolution, etc)--such as -- biologically evolve through genetic engineering ...or simply use a protective hazard suit that lets us be incredibly agile, run 70 mph, and protect us from basic things like say, harmful radiation,...any catastrophy on Earth is not sufficiently likely to completely wipe out the human race (some rich or powerful people would figure out a way to survive--and so would regular people) given our current capabilities---even a nuclear war--
'domed' cities powered by bio-generators is another possibility...using coal, or some sort of advanced nano-devices greatly enhancing the effiicnecy of our energy intake to support pop.
In case of great devastation (such as nuclear war or soil incineration by rays), then yes, we can go under the ground with the bunker and survive.
so no, we will not go extinct, we will survive...how we survive I let it to the imagination and creativity of the world to decide.

nice obituary, but man doesn't rhyme with understand! :P
Anyway, we won't live with ourselves, we'll be dead. That is, if you consider us to be part of the human race. If you don't, then who cares about the human race? :P We're not one of them, right?
jkn :D
Man won't become extinct all by himself. He would drag along a lot of other creatures. Heat up? Plants are fried and all those who depend on plants to start the food chain die(which is almost all of visible living creatures), seas and oceans dry up, no aquatic animal lives. We freeze? Burn up all the woods and give no regards to the animals that live there. Famine? eat the plants and animals and squeeze them dry. Plague? Domestic animals die along with us. That's all, right?

maybe that's the way for all the other species that live on this planet to be saved ... globally observed, it might be considered as the ONLY thing mankind ever did right ... if we don't do it too late

Man kinds great demise is from within and the greed and wants gone undisciplined. Instead of future doom, go to abettercommunity.org and see how you can get involved.

Interesting. I believe, at this point, that mankind's suicide is the only thing that can save it. At very least, it takes us to the next experiment. That's all this is.

We won't. That would be the idea behind committing suicide.
Fatalists talk about the end of the world. I prefer to just think about the world.

as you have said
"If the human race commits suicide, how will we be able to live with ourselves?"
on behalf of we (all that is not belonging to the human race) we would live with ourselves the same way had the human race vanished without extinction.
