Core 2 Duo is a brand name, just like Pentium D is on the first one. They are both dual-core processors, which simply means a processor with two cores.

The Core 2 Duo is easily better, by far. It runs cooler, uses less energy, has a faster FSB, and most important, processes more data per clock cycle, meaning that while it has a lower clock-speed, it will easily processes more data than the Pentium D you are looking at.

the Core 2 Due is better.

the Core 2 Due is a dual core processor but it is the second generation and not based on the Pentium chip design. The Core 2 Due is better just be comparing its numbers. The main process speed is faster the bus speed is faster and the L2 cache is larger. Both are the same socked so the same motherboard would work but the Core 2 Duo is a newer technology.

If by "better" you mean "faster", then it's the Core 2 Duo. I have machines that have both processors, and the Core 2 Duo is MUCH faster.
