with our eyes!

I worked with a wonderful British woman at my old job - she was so much fun! Had a great sense of humor too! There's a British woman where I work now too, and she's just as sweet! I love the accent too!

I think it's wrong to judge an entire nation based on what Americans have seen on tv / in movies. Let's face it - we've seen the British portrayed as cold hearted jerks in movies like The Patriot, senseless idiots in Monty Python, and stuffy & proper in Mary Poppins - we're ALL different, no matter WHERE we come from - and being unique is a GOOD thing! How boring the world would be if we were all the same! We need to see people as PEOPLE, not races, nationalities, or sexes.

Well, one of the fundamental attributes of Americans is our individually. I doubt if there is really such a thing as an "American" opinion of any given group of people.

So... speaking for myself (as an "average" American), I view the English people as extremely proper and polite, which sometimes causes them to come across as a bit stuffy in the context of the more informal cultural expectations of America. However, this is a bit ironic as English people also have a wonderfully refreshing dry wit, often at their own expense, and often such humor is firmly rooted in the self knowledge that they are obsessed with politeness.

On TV, or movies. This sounds like sarcasm, but it is the only time I see English people. Most of the time it is a written show or movie, so there is no way to judge what English people are actually like.

You'll hear some Americans say a few bad things about the English. Those are a vocal minority. Not all of us are like that.

There really isn't anything bad I can say about the English. That's more than I can say about this side of the pond.

Personally, English women's accents are SEXY. SEXY with capital letters.

Hmm... I used to think they were sort of stuck up or something... until I actually MET a bunch - lol (Funny the way we perceive folks based on media and rubbish.)

Let's see... now that I know a large number of folks in England, I'd say... smart, funny, offbeat sense of humor, very understated and totally my style... cerebral humor.

Fun... not afraid to drop the tea for beer, wine or whiskey, naughty in a totally endearing way... lovers of education.

Hard workers, all of them, not afraid to break a sweat for a good cause. Proud of their own land and history, in love with America even though we rebelled... perhaps in part because we did. Lovers of children and the future... respectful of others always... wonderful manners and beautiful skin, probably because of the weather there - lol

Cultured and understated on the outside... deep thinkers and passionate on the inside... often have wonderful self-control but it doesn't mean they're dull in ANY way, shape or form!

That about covers it... unless you want to add generous and just generally lovely :)

Depends on the American.

Me? I melt at the accents. I love Brits. If I could run off to England, find Colin Firth, kidnap him, and record him reading me the dictionary, I'd do it.

Of course, I'd prefer David Tennant, who, I believe, is actually Scottish, but eh, it's all good over there.

I see them as our buddies....very cool people. One of my Dad's best friends is from England....and to the person below-he's not a "tea drinking wuss" ...he's a hardcord metalhead that could probably kick your butt anyday.

I see them as people that can be OK except for their annoying accents.

also to the chick that says she likes that the men are uncut....that's just odd.

btw there are uncut guys in the states too, just not as many I guess.

Dry humor and bad teeth is the image that gets pumped, probably very wrong.

Aside from being our only allies, I think of fish and chips, ale, and tea time.
