The Corvette was first introduced in 1953. At that time it was what they called the C1 platform, which ran from 1953 until 1962. Changing little in the actual design, other than frame rails, body moldings and lights (tail and head lights), as well as the front grill. The 283 engine used was the first engine to have the equal hp to cubic inch rating, at 1:1 (283 brake horsepower to 283 cubic inches). A little more info than you probably wanted, but nevertheless, if your interested in the Corvette, these are facts you should know and be proud of.

The car's genesis was an idea by Harley Earl in 1951, with a "pre-production" experimental vehicle built in 1952. 1953 saw the introduction of the "All New Fiberglass Sports car" from Chevrolet at the New York Motorama auto show. It was powered by the famous "Blue Flame six" and had an automatic transmission. Wasn't too much as a sports car, but it got better as the years progressed.
