Won't change anything. That's an urban legend. You'd need to get millions or billions to stop using it totally, forever.

It has been suggested. Also suggested and equally as ineffective is boycotting certain companies.

All they'll do is increase the price the next day. One week ago gas was 1.79/gal. The news said for 3 days in a row the cost of oil dropped. Now gas is 2.99/gal, how can that be? Anybody notice that before gas went over 2$/gal the most increase you ever saw was maybe a nickel/gal. Now they do quarters/gal increases for no reason whatsoever. I especially liked the increase we had last year because some idiot said "there are going to be more hurricanes this year" gas shot up twenty cents the next day. Somebody needs to kick the oil companies CEO's butt.

Nothing will happen if we spend 1 or 2 days where no one purchases fuel, the fact is, it would still be in demand. The only way it would be affected is if no one drove their cars for a few days - thus decreasing the damand

How about this instead: We all cut our gas consumption as much as possible, and keep it that way. It isn't that difficult to do. Why do people keep paying high prices for it and saying 'that's just the way it is'? It doesn't have to be if enough people make an effort to change it.

Boycotting gas could be a dumb mistake, especially if they found out about it... they would just wait a few days and jack the price way up when everyone is getting near empty and have to refuel...

its great idea...if we boycotted for a week, they would be giving away a free tank of gas with every coffee.....this is a joke,,,,billions in profits, and yes Exxon is NOT robbing us? Its our own fault for being so self centered as to not execute the boycott you propose...I am with you.

I can't even coordinate getting all of my kids to pee before we leave the house, how are WE going to boycott filling up on a certain day? You gonna call & remind me?

Want to do something which will work!

Pick one day a week and don't drive.
Ok, we could give a little leeway. To church services, a doctor, to visit a sick friend, fine. But, to the mall, etc. Don't.
If it isn't essential,then don't.
Do it on a day you don't have to go to work or school.

I have an even better idea, why not drive your car only every other day, that would make an even larger impact.

I like the roads empty when I go out.
