Dorothy: Well, I—I think that it, that it wasn't enough just to want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em — and it's that — if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right?
Glinda: Then close your eyes and tap your heels together three times. And think to yourself, 'There's no place like home'
---- ---- ----
Dorothy: But it wasn't a dream. It was a place, and you [Hunk] and you [Hickory] and you [Zeke] and you [Professor Marvel] were there. [Everyone laughs] But you couldn't have been, could you?
Auntie Em: We dream lots of silly things when we...
Dorothy: No, Aunt Em. This is a real, truly live place. And I remember that some of it wasn't very nice. But most of it was beautiful. But just the same, all I kept saying to everybody was, 'I want to go home.' And they sent me home. [Everyone chuckles again] Doesn't anybody believe me?
Uncle Henry: Of course we believe you, Dorothy.
Dorothy: Oh, but anyway, Toto, we're home! Home! And this is my room - and you're all here! And I'm not gonna leave here ever, ever again because I love you all! - And oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home. There's no place like home.

I, for one, experienced the feeling. I was away, in the military for 21 years. When I came back it was to a smaller town then I remembered to a group of provincial people. I could tell stories of Paris, Tokyo, London, Madrid, Panama, Saigon. Some of my old class mates had ventured maybe 100 miles away from home. It is very true. When you get out and see the world things change. Not true of everyone, but most people I know.

You can go home again but with the passage of time, the home may be different as you are different. What I mean by this is that you can go home again but each person takes with him or her different expierences that may change what home was in the first place.
In the Wizard of Oz it was Dorothy's desire to go home but I don't think that it was the same home as when she left because she had experiences that were good and bad that effected her life.

Actually, you can go home, as home is anywhere you make it.
What the saying actually refers to is that you can not return to the home of your youth. You can not "go home" and have things like they were before you left. Everything changes, except your old memories, and so "You can't go home".

very sneaky Q!? Amazingly some of the respondents seem to have an innate grasp of Heraclitus' paradox.
What's your answer to the problem of flux then??
