You may have strep and need an antibiotic. But as for a powerful sore throat remedy, here goes: Mix a very little lemon juice, honey, and cayenne pepper. Put some on the tip of a spoon. Without touching any other part of your mouth with it, use the spoon to apply a small amount to the very back of the throat. Swallow it, don't let it come back into your mouth. It burns, but it's worth it if your pain is as bad as you say.
A really bad sore throat is characteristic of strep or mono. If you don't start getting better soon, see a doctor.

Gargle with warm water and salt every 15 minutes. The salt helps kill the bacteria. Hope you feel better. Halls also has really great sore throat drops.

Gah! Last holidays I had the worst sore throat in the world, and then my boyfriend got it...
You just want it to go away but cough medicines are probably the worst tasting liquid in the world right? and gargling salty water? yuck.
1 method that really helped us and that tastes delish at the same time was...
every night before we went to bed, we would make ourselves a hot milo (hot chocolate) and stir in like 4 or 5 big teaspoons of honey, and then 1 teaspoon of the horrible cough mixture.
It tastes so yummy and it does help get rid of your sore throat..
Try for yourself!
Goodluck=)

Any other symptoms? Headache, fever, or nausea along with sore throat could be strep which need to be treated. Try Chloreseptic(?sp) throat lozenges. They worked great for me. Or try gargling warm salt water.

I can't really help you, if you can't even drink water. If you're willing to try drinking something, mix Vernors, and sunny d.(sunny d is orange juice)

If u don't know what vernors is, it's ginger ale. It's mainly a michigan thing.
That always helps my sore throats.
If you find you can drink water, drink plenty of it.

Try drinking orange spice tea with a few drops of lemon in it. I am not positive that it will work, so if it doesn't, instead of lemon put a teaspoon of honey.
