JD Drew made a lot of enemies when he was highly recruited by the Philadelphia Phillies. Even at that time he was a legend in his own mind. Here was a guy who hadn't played a single inning in the major leagues and fancied himself the second coming of Mickey Mantle (via the number 7), and demanded 8.5 million dollars for 5 years. He had already made up his mind that he wanted no part of Philadelphia because of their lack of commitment to winning and figured he could test the market at the same time.

The Phillies did their best but finally gave up on him. The only problem for Drew was no one else was willing to improve on the Phillies offer. St. Louis however matched the Phillies so Drew became a Cardinal. It didn't work out because he became poison in the locker room. He still felt he wasn't making near what he thought he was worth so he never became a team player. This attitude has never changed as he bounces from team to team.

Phillie fans hate him and rightfully so. He has never come close to his press notices and will remain a journeyman type player. He will end up with a marginal career but any hopes he ever had of making it to Cooperstown will only come true when he plans to visit that beautiful place as a tourist, but certainly not as a member of the hall of fame!!

I tell you what I have against him. To be drafted by a major league team should be a dream. Dosen't matter what team it is. If you are a baseball player that is a dream. to be drafted #1 by someone and refuse to play for them. come on. i'm a die hard Phillies fan so I can honestly say that it was I have against him. although now that I think about it, i would probably be pretty PO'd if he had signed because he would be in the same category as Pat Burrell, pretty disappointing. And that wasn't JD Drew who grabbed Dusty Baker's kid it was JT Snow.

Drew has been criticized by some for his seeming indifference towards his team's performance. Watching him compete in the 2006 National League Division Series, Bill Simmons wrote that he had the demeanor of a bag boy. Simmons has also turned his frustration over Drew's signing by the Red Sox into a running reference in his column. This criticism is not limited to sportswriters. In his book Three Nights in August, Buzz Bissinger mentions St. Louis manager Tony La Russa's agony over Drew's lack of passion. La Russa tells Bissinger that it seems Drew has decided to "settle for 75%" of his talent, in large part because of his enormous contract.

JD is a chronic injury waiting to happen, in fact I picked up Willie Mo Pena in my fantasy league because I know JD will be hurt before the month of May.

am not against j.d drew.people in boston have issues with him becuz they dont think that he plays the game passionately and they think that hes a much better player than how he seems to perform.but i think that boston signing him was a great move and its showing early on here in the season.hes hit safely in all 9 games the redsox have played he,s batting average is over .350 and if it wasnt for him getting that only hit vs the mariners, felix hernandez would,ve thrown a no-hitter against the redsox.redsox fans should give him a break and just be grateful that we got him becuz his great in the position that he plays and hes another big bat that the redsox have in the middle of the line up.

He doesn't give 100% ever. He doesn't play hard.

And he's got a body made of plastic. A 29 year old player shouldn't miss 20-30 games a year.

I just don't think guys understand the guy he is laid back and by some, they take it that he doesn't care.He has also been a high salary player so that doesn't help.Nor does being represented by Scott Boras as an agent. He is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Not EVERYONE has something or anything against him. We in Red Sox Nation are delighted and feel fortunate to have him in our lineup!! Where do you get your information? He is an excellent fielder and a feared hitter. ANY team would want him.

Chow!!

Well, so far so good in Boston...Thank God he got that hit the other night..I hate getting "no hit"...They say that he isnt worth the money that he gets and he is stuck up but, maybe he was just with the wrong teams???
