1. I forgot to do a proper shut down.
2. When I turned it back on it went to a black screen that said sorry but.......it then gave me the options of starting in "Safe mode, along with several other modes.
3. No matter which one I chose it would blank out for about 5 seconds and come back to the same screen with the different modes to choose form.
4. I took it to an internet cafe they tried putting one of their hard drives in mine and it did the same thing.
5.Then they took my hard drive and hooked it up to another computor to save the information from mine so they could try reloading windows.
6. When they hooked mine to the other computor it ran "scan disk" and then it saved.
7. They put hard drive back in mine to reload but it worked fine then.
8. It would not run scan disk on mine, but it had before when I forgot to shut down.

I'm assuming you're running XP, right?

1. Start the Recovery Console. If you do not have the Recovery Console installed, start it from the Windows XP compact disc (The CD). Follow the a. b. c. d. steps to install Recovery Console:

a. Insert the Windows XP CD in your CD drive and restart your computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD (most likely F12).

b. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; you need to choose the repair or recover option by pressing R .

c. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the recovery console.

d. When your prompted, type the Administrator password.

2. At the command prompt (C:/), type chkdsk /p , and then press ENTER.

Once this is done, restart it and click on Safe Mode. This time around it should work. Once in Safe Mode, just restart it the computer in normal mode.

Well, it Windows cannot boot you cannot get to the point that chkdsk will run. It sounds like there was a system file corrupt. If it's working fine now, I wouldn't worry about it.
