When I right-click any document, windows installer launches and begins to install Macromedia's Contribute 3. C3 is already installed and stable and is completely unrelated to the document being installed

What happens if you double-click a file that has a .doc file extension? That should open up the document in whatever word processor program you use. If not, you need to change the .doc file association. To do this, double click on "My Computer", then click on "Tools" on top, then on "Folder Options, and then on "File Types". Scroll down until you find the entry for DOC and then, if it's not already set up to have something similar to Word open up the file, change the setting so that your word processor opens up that DOC file type. Then click on "Apply" and then "OK".
