I really want to go to UC Irvine but my dad keeps insisting that I should go to CSUN because it's close by and we can pay its costs without getting loans. What are the pros and cons of each?

i want to study either economics or biology.

i already applied for financial aid. they expect my parents to pay around twenty thousand a year... i don't know where they got the idea that we could pay that..

UCI will be more challenging and more competitive. Northridge will be easier. If money is not an issue, these are the keys to your choice. If money is the bottom line, go to Northridge and work your butt off to be sure you graduate at the top.

UCI is ranked much higher. However, CSUN has some programs that simply aren't available at UCI. It all depends on what you want to study.

You really need to apply for financial aid and see what you're offered before you start ruling out schools based on cost.

Tell me something, if it was you footing the bill for your schooling, would you go somewhere you could afford vice somewhere you had to take out loans?? If you really want to go to UCI, suggest to your dad that you will be willing to pay off the loans. If that is not the case, then I think you should go to CSUN.

You don't say what degree you want, but both schools are good academically and I would bet they both offer your major.

Both are good schools. I know a UCI grad and my niece pondered CSUN at one point.
