I recently sent an email to someone and found out they are a nut case. Now they claim they are going to trace back and find out personal information about me. I did not give them any personal information in my correspondence. Can they somehow trace where the email is sent from using technology on the web? Is there reason for me to be concerned?

Do you have any personal information associated with that email address? Make sure your password is safe so that he/she cannot read your email and make sure you don't have private information in any public profile associated with that address, especially if it is a yahoo address. You should have no reason to be concerned. However, if you think the threat is real, you should always report it to the authorities.

all they can get besides your email address is the ip address it was sent from and your isp but they may have your name as well because when you set up an email account it asks what name you want to send with your email but other than that they can't trace the email to your address

All they can find out is where your general service area is (City or State) but not your name or address so don't worry about it and block their email address as spam and forget it...

It MIGHT be possible, if they REALLY know what they are doing. Plus, they will probably have to fork out some money to pay to do some lookups. I wouldn't worry too much though, but if you are worried, report them to the police...they can attempt to track them down and press charges.

Most they could do is just know your email adress but you can easily block theirs.
