I am a Democrat, but I just thought he might have approved of abolishing slavery, even if it was to destabilize the South and win the war.

Seeing as how Jesus stood up for those too weak to stand up for themselves and helped the poor, I would have to say he'd be a Democrat. He would not approve of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, which the Republicans seem to strive for.

He would not be a Lincoln Republican. Lincoln was a Socialist who built a huge government with tax dollars; he believed in putting a gun to the head of people to make them submit to high taxes and big government. Jesus had no interest in govt or forcing people to pay for the communist good; he likes freedom and giving people the options, unlike Lincoln--the enemy of freedom.

Jesus died a little under 2000 years ago, the politics of today don't apply to him. You should probably research Lincoln's Republican party a little more. Lincolns wartime policies make Bush look like a Liberal. His constant violations of the constitution was unprecedented in our nations history.

I don't think Jesus would have picked a party to follow. On some issues (like abortion and gay marriage) he would side with the Republican, but on others he would side with the Democrats.

Jesus would not have fit into either American political party. The Republicans at the present time are too militarist and don't really understand his message...
J. "Do onto others as they would do onto you."
Christian Right -backs homicidal maniacs who murder abortion doctors.
J. "Judge not, least ye be judged."
Christian Right -God hates gay people.
And while he might agree with the Democrats on the idea of social reform and care for the sick and poor, he would not agree with the idea of using the government as the tool to do that.

More then likely, he would say, "Give onto Washington, that which is Washington, and give onto God, that which is God" and would walk away.

With his actions and deeds causing such outrage amongst his contemporaries, (to the point of crucifying him) he must have been a Liberal.
A Conservative is largely a herd animal. Very little independent thought.
I prefer to think of him as the original hippie.

When Jesus returns, political parties will be superfluous.

What if he returns in 2 million years, will all bets be off by then?

Jesus would be too smart to come to the US.
But he'd be a liberal, socialist, anti-war,long-hair, pot- smoking, hippy and he'd try to save the likes of me!
