It is always best to dress conservative, business casual. Ladies, dress pants, collared blouse and blazer, men, dress pants blazer collared shirt, you never get a second chance to make a first impression and companys want corporate dress and attitude.

What you wear will depend on what type of job you are applying for. If it's a job in retail, business casual (slacks and a nice shirt) should be acceptable. If however, you are applying for your first job in sales or a corporate environment a suit (or dress if female) is the best idea. Your appearance will effect your chances. If you are applying to a job where the dress code is suits and you appear in slacks and a dress shirt, they are going to assume that you aren't prepared for the job. If however the job is retail and you appear in a suit, you may not be hired because they may assume at first glance that you are "overqualified" and fit into an unavailable management position.

Dress conservatively. Even if the job will allow casual dress. The first impression is a lasting one.

Shirt and tie, dress pants and jacket for a man. For a woman, a pants suit or skirt suit and a white blouse or shirt make a great first impression.

It depends on what kind of job (formal field like ins or banking versus funky retail shop?) but conservative is better than too casual, so go for dark colors, classic style, and low key jewelry. If possible, scope out the office or shop and see what others are wearing and go for a middle of the road look, based on what you see others wearing.

Depending on what the job is for, dress according to the position. Office - business, retail, etc. - business casual. Dress conservatively, not too little, not too much. Be prepared.

Good luck!
