fdisk is a dos command so you must boot your pc under dos mode either dos via diskette or boot from cd but you must have windows98 cd, both of them generates virtual drive after the boot up then execute fdisk from the prompt whether c:, d:, e:, f: prompt which is applicable then follow the step by step wizard.

if you've been told to use fdisk you must be using windows 98 first you need to make a boot disk open the control panel click on Add/remover programs and click the make startup disk tab then insert a floppy disk into the drive and click on create disk have your windows 98 disk handy it may ask for it
when you've got the boot disk leave it in the floppy drive and reboot now you're in dos type fdisk when fdisk ask do you want to enable large file support choose yes choose the option to delete the partition (the os is now dead) when deleted recreate the partition then reboot with the floppy type format c: when done remove the floppy and insert the windows cd and reboot the install should start automatically have your product key ready or you won't be able to complete the reinstallation of windows after windows is running again you'll then need to reinstall all your drivers
just a word of warning there are many pit falls for a novice and you can get in real trouble if you don't know what you're doing

If you do FDisk, you will lose ALL data on your hard drive. What you should do it insert your Windows CD and boot to that (it might automatically) and perform a Repair Install.

You need to locate a windows 98 boot disk....
it has fdisk on it... if they told you to do a fdisk then they probably are trying to have you fdisk, reformat then reinstall your software....

you should get info on fdisk, formatting a, and windows install before trying...

Doing a Windows re-install will format your drive anyway. You'll still lose all of your data though.
