I had noticed from the very beggining that many people were not liking Sanjaya on the American Idol Show because of his being too young and of Indian origin (kind of racial prejudice). There are many theories out there about his success for hanging on so long. Most of them are the results of stereotypical thinkings and undermine, unjustifiably, his talent (whatever he has!).

His unpopularity has nothing to do with his ethnicity. That's just white people feeling guilty for not liking him. He doesn't sing well, although he actually did ok this week. He's immature and annoying.

He is still around because of phone bots set up to keep his votes up. If he were voted off, AI would be a bunch of ok singers doing the same old stuff every week and would not get good ratings. Melinda and LaKisha sound the same every week, nothing new. My girl Jordin is the only one with depth, growth and soul. Sanjaya will be gone in time based solely on skill level, and we'll get down to what the show is about.

No, I absolutely don't agree.

I'm not entertained by him changing his hairdo every week, and his performances are entirely boring. On top of that, it's a singing competition, and he's not a very good singer (better than me, to be sure, but considering who he's up against, he has no business being there).

His heritage has absolutely NOTHING to do with his lack of popularity...In fact, it is quite the opposite. I have seen signs in the audience that say, "Vote for our people", so he clearly is getting the racial count in his favor.

I truly believe that the ONLY reason he hasn't been voted off so far is becuase of "votefortheworst.com" and Howard Stern, encouraging people to vote for him, just because he is the worst of the competitors. They think it's funny, when in fact, it's fairly tragic...I find this behavior to be exactly like that of computer programmers who write viruses. They get pleasure from other peoples' frustration. And try to imagine how humiliating that must be for Sanjaya...I have a hard time believing that he's actually friends with anyone backstage, since they all must know that he's taking up space that should have been occupied by someone with more talent.

Jean you have hit on something. It is not tha Sanjaya is talented, he is not. He cannot sing. But the show is called American Idol and not American Best Singer. Sanjaya has that charisma and mystique that will carry him far in the industry. He has the look that many teenage girls will metl over. He knows how to play his attributes to the fullest, such as he has everyone wondering how he will wear his hair. That is entertainment, that is what youngsters want. They want to be entertain. He has struck a chord with the market that Idol is after.

I think it is a shame that some truely great singers have been voted off. But dude I am 56 and I am so out of touch with youth today. Like the one person who answered you question said, "the show would be boring without Sanjaya". Singers are great, but entertainers are rare.

This is a poor crop of American Idols this year. Sanjaya is not very good at all, mostly he is still there because of the website "votefortheworst.com". There is a big movement to point out how stupid and fake american idol is. They are encouraging everyone to vote for the least talented contestant.

Sanjaya should have been bumped long time ago. He has no pzazz! He has no rhythm. Age has nothing to do with it. If you got talent-then show it!!!!!. It doesn't matter what race he is. We are all created equal. He doesn't have what it takes to be the "American Idol of 2007"

i finished gazing the coach all at the same time. it really is not exciting anymore. not one of the contestants activity me. Sanjaya sucks maximum of all and the unhappy section is that the producer is a douche bag that asserts sanjaya advantages to be there? come on dude get with truth. you realize it sucks that he would win the million dollar grand prize even notwithstanding he sucks. And its unhappy that different bands and singers obtainable even popular ones now had to artwork flat out and conflict their finished lives at the same time as this teeny bopper fruit cake is having a probability to get someplace. it really is gloomy and soon song as all of us understand it a minimum of customary song will die.

Frankly, I find him rather "creepy".

He apparently doesn't like to shave and appears to be like someone with personal hygiene issues.

What singing skills he has (or the lack thereof) is definitely not up to final weeks' American Idol standards (hence, all the controversy surrounding him still being on the show).

He's not Indian! He's a Bengali-Indian-Italian-American tone-deaf dude!!! Do NOT call him Indian! I'm indian, and for me, it's seriously offensive...!!!

For all we know, Italians might be the ones keeping him on the show. :)
