possibly, but is it worth the risk?
Keep in mind that the only 100% preventable disability is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the ONLY person responsible for a child having FAS is the mother.

While the American OB/GYN board recommends abstaining completely, in other countries light use is acceptable, with no higher incidence of alcohol-related birth defects. And there is no evidence of harm from a single drink. FASDs are caused by regular heavy drinking, not one glass of wine. There is also at least one very interesting study which found that even when large amounts of alcohol are consumed, wine appears to be less risky than other types of alcohol. (At least among white mice...) It's your choice whether to drink or not. The only question would be, that IF baby was born with some problem, would you feel guilty? Would you blame yourself and wonder if that glass of wine was to blame? (I didn't drink at all. I'm not much of a drinker, and abstaining wasn't an issue for me.) EDIT: Amusing that someone who claims to be a doctor says it's ok to get drunk every day AFTER baby is born, but you can't have ONE drink while pregnant. How exactly does this 'doctor think you're supposed to care for a baby appropriately while constantly drunk?

My doctor said one glass of red wine a day is safe...however I choose not to do this. I have had the occasional glass here and there but usually no more than once a week. My husband is German and all the women over there drink wine when pregnant.
I started having bad contractions a few weeks ago and having a glass of red wine made them stop.
Do not drink any alochol in your first trimester though

Safe for the baby: Yes. One glass of wine is nothing your own liver can't readily handle.
And I'm not a doctor, but most agree on the health benefits of some alcohol, especially dark, rich beers and wines. That may even make the weekly drink a favor to your child's health.
Safe for your reputation: Definitely not. I think the gov't can take your kid away for that, but I'm not sure where or even whether. It's sad our society is like this, but it is and always has been, just about different things.

It's never safe to drink while pregnant. But some doctors will tell you that drinking one glass of wine a day is good for you. They don't say that drinking while pregnant is good. I would say save it for after the birth of the child. good luck

Yes. I had wine very infrequently during my three pregnancies - you know, just for special occassions.
My doctor and midwife both said one glass of wine every now and then is not a problem. Just make sure you don't drink it on a empty stomach.

Remember that the baby takes in everything you do, and the baby is much smaller and has underdeveloped filtration organs. If you think it is really worth the risk, then I guess more power to you. My wife is a wine enthusiast, but didn't drink wine until after the baby finished breastfeeding. I guess it is all about priorities.

The full effects of alcohol while pregnant are unknown. Is it worth the risk? Why not wait? Is your baby not worth it? Pure selfishness.
Its best to refrain completely. Would you give your newborn a glass of wine? Drink like a child, because you are carrying one.

I heard that limited wine drinking was safe....but alcohol is alcohol, why risk it? Liquor is just not that important to me.
I recommend staying away from it completely.
