If you right-click "My Computer" and select properties, then the Computer Name tab, and then click Network ID, it will run a little wizard that will default you to "WORKGROUP". Then the Computer Name tab will no longer show the old name of your network. Click OK to restart the computer, if you like, for the change to take effect. This is not a big deal anyway, since many computers are by default members of "WORKGROUP". However you will also want to undo file sharing.

Open My Computer, right click on the hard drive, or whatever root drive or folder you think might be shared, and from the dropdown menu select Sharing and Security. If the Sharing tab reads "if you understand the risk but still want to share the root of this drive, click here", there is nothing for you to do. But if it instead comes up with an option about network sharing, just uncheck the box and click OK. Done. Repeat on your other PCs.

Where are people getting this stupid idea of deleting "Local Area Connection"?????????/ It cannot be deleted, only disabled via Network Connections in Control Panel. Your LAN card is a piece of hardware, you can only "uninstall" it via Device Manager and even then, each time you reboot, it will reload the driver from the sys32 folder of Windows. Anyway, we don't want to even attempt to get rid of it as we need it to network with in the first place!!!

Firstly, what sort of network are you trying to establish. Is it PC to PC, PC to Broadband Hub? Secondly, if it is PC to PC, have you allowed folder sharing on the PC's because if you haven't, you will not be able to access folders or files on the other PC. I presume that PC networking is a fairly new thing to you and you have a limited knowledge (not wishing to patronise in any way, I promise). I would suggest you look at some forums first as Microsoft's wizards are not so fantastic in networking. Oh, and thirdly, if you're trying to network to another PC, you need to ensure that both PC's are on the same workgroup, or you'll never get them to talk to each other.

Steve

Go to Control Panel and then Network Connections. Delete the "Local Area Network" connection and create a new one.

Not sure why you would do a system restore when all you have to do is remove the nic from the control panel, but you're not specific as to what the problem is either.
