Breakfast of Champions was the first Vonnegut book I read, during a 3 month visit to Alaska (my brother was going to school at UAF), one of his friends said, "Have you read any Kurt Vonnegut?" I said, "Who?" She said, "Read this." I laughed, I thought, I read it and was done in a day or so, but I can never resist picking up anything of his that I haven't read yet. (The problem is, when you're picking up 25 cent copies of old paperbacks at estate sales, they tend to die before too long if they weren't well-tended.) Definitely a great loss for the literary world, and one day I do plan on having a collection of new copies of his books... it's just that prices are probably gonna go through the roof now...........

Yes, quite saddened. Not so much that he is gone, for we all go some day, but by the way he went. I do think he was a great literary figure, and I enjoyed a few of his books. I went to high school in Guilderland New York with his nephew, he had the same name.

Yes... I am deeply saddened. I took a day of silence for him, and all I did was write.
Its hard to understand the relationship between a writer and their favorite author, the person who they aspire to. That was Kurt Vonnegut for me.
It's very difficult to pick a favorite book of his, but I will have to say a tie between Mother Night and Cat's Cradle. My favorite short story has to be A.W.O.L. or Welcome to the Monkey House. He was a brilliant man, and I know my world won't be the same without him in it.
I had to laugh like hell, Kurt. <3

I hadn't heard the news.
Slaughterhouse5 was one of my favorites. The only 1 I've read BTW. I could never forget that story: bodies piled up outside the windows, and the soldier who found a big diamond in the coat of a dead woman.

Yes I was! Slaughterhouse Five and Cat's Cradle are probably my favorites.
Oops! Almost forgot "Breakfast of Champions" and God Bless You Mr. Rosewater"
Oh wait ---- Come to think of it, I can't name a favorite after all. Writers like him don't come along very often. His irreverence will be missed.

He appeared to have lived a long and satisfying life. I wasn't especially saddened but I will always appreciate his many contributions to our national literature.
