these people below me who are saying that you should put the hamster in water have no idea what they are talking about. NEVER EVER PUT YOUR HAMSTER IN WATER. my friends hamster died this way because she gave it a bath. if you want to give your hamster a bath, give it a sand bath. these are available at pet stores. for the smell, you probably are not cleaning the cage well enouggh. clean it very very well scrubbing each part individually. you can also buy odor control which i have heard works wonders. hope i helped.

It may be a girl hamster.....if it is, the smell will get worse every four days when she starts scenting everything.

You really can bath them, you can get hamster shampoo or puppy shampoo is ok too. Just a little water in the sink and let it run around. Just make sure you dry it (although they dont take well to hairdriers.

How long have you had it? Does it have an organised cage?
i know a few of my younger ones used to just poo and wee everywhere and they smelled pretty bad. This may seem like a mean solution but what i did was left them. Well not left them, but i didnt clean them out for several weeks, this meant they noticed the smell for themselves, their food would start to smell. Then when i cleaned them out they were more careful of where they wee'd and where they stored their food. It made it easier to get rid of the smell.

If your hamster is a female this most likely the smell from her being in heat. They get a musky odor to them that is really stinky. I have 7 female Sryians and they can really stink up the house when I run out of my odor control liquid. There are liquids available to add to the water which does help. They usually run about $13 and up for an 8oz. bottle. Keeping the cage litter changed can help some, but if their in heat they can spray all over it. My son and partener in our small animal rescue tends to get sprayed the most by the females.

Carefresh is a exceptional sawdust replace, and absorbs multiple the odour, so which you need to attempt that. maximum puppy shops sell it, inclusive of Pets at homestead. additionally, attempt looking around the small animal drugs section. you are able to frequently discover odour granules to sprinkle on the backside of the cage as quickly as you have wiped clean her out. verify her rear end for any wetness, merely in case the subject is a few thing extreme. If there is any mess, take her to the Vet, as moist Tail is deadly. She's maximum probable merely common stinky however, like mine!

The only yhing I can think of is that your not cleaning his cage out often enough. If you are then I would get him to the vet to make sure he does'nt have some kind of infection.

it's his cage. Clean it more often and not just the cedar chips, the cage needs to be disinfected it's self.
