Hmmmm...outlook is an email server. If you have an email account through your internet provider they will provide you with the POP3 name. This is what sends and receives your emails. there is an outgoing and incoming and is derived from the smpt email server your provider has

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) is the most recent version of a standard protocol for receiving e-mail. POP3 is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server. Periodically, you (or your client e-mail receiver) check your mail-box on the server and download any mail, probably using POP3. This standard protocol is built into most popular e-mail products, such as Eudora and Outlook, Outlook Express. It's also built into the Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers.

POP3 is designed to delete mail on the server as soon as the user has downloaded it. However, some implementations allow users or an administrator to specify that mail be saved for some period of time. POP can be thought of as a "store-and-forward" service.

It really doesn't matter since you're just downloading the message from their server onto your computer. POP3 is the way that Outlook downloads the emails from the server. Contact your email host and ask them what the POP3 and SMTP servers should be set to...each company is different.

★★ GMail Help ★★

◙ NOTE: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! There are two differnt ways to use your web-based GMail account. When you first enter GMail you are in the basic HTML view. The basic HTML view is a little different than what you're used to because the following features aren't available: Filter creation, Settings (Including Forwarding and POP), Spell checker, Keyboard shortcuts, Address auto-complete, Custom From addresses. To get these features and more, click on the link at the top that says "Switch to standard view".

◙ Which browsers are fully-supported by GMail?

◙ Here is some information that will help you with GMail.

◙ One of the best features is how easy it is to keep up with a conversation with a single friend. All of your previous posts to that
person are right there for you to review in case you forgot what you were talking about. Another good feature is that everyone that emails you is automatically added into your contacts list (address book). Currently there is no way to opt out of that. Maybe later they will add that feature.

◙ GMail is currently in beta testing and isn't ready to be released to the general public. This is why you had to be invited to use it instead of just signing up for it like you would normally do with everything else. Because it is still being tested it will occasionally not do what you want it to do. When this happens keep trying until it gives up and report it to one of the following GMail Help groups below.

◙ Usually after a week or two you will be given the ability to invite others to Gmail. You will know when the time comes because a form will appear in the lower-left corner of your screen. Also when answering an email you will see a link that says "Invite So And So To Gmail". So and so is the name of the person you are emailing.

◙ There are some other things you can do with the space in your Gmail account. One of them is called "GDrive". It's a program you download that lets you use your Gmail account as a network drive. Search Google with the keyword "gmail" and you'll see a lot of new stuff. More is being created everyday.

◙ Anyone wanting a GMail email address can get one from me by emailing cssiscool@gmail.com I have hundreds of invites left. When I run out I can get more.

◙ NOTE: If you have a cell phone or pda with internet access you do not need to be invited. You can sign yourself up.

◙ TIP: If your computer crashes while writing an email Gmail will save what you have typed in the Drafts folder and you can finish it when you login again. :)

◙ PLUS ADDRESSING ◙

◙ Gmail also supports "plus-addressing" of emails. Messages can be sent to addresses in the form: gmail.user+extratext@gmail.com where extratext can be any string. Plus-addressing allows users to sign up for different services with different aliases and then easily filter all e-mails from those services. It does not appear, however, that the +string feature works when sending email from a gmail account to itself. Additionally (in some cases) the string appended to the e-mail address may not be longer than six characters. Below is an example. fred@gmail.com and fred+amazon+shopping will send email to the same inbox.

◙ If you have a web site of your own and you want to put your email address in a link with plus addressing you have to do something special to make it work properly. You have to replace the + sign with these characters %2B like below.
