Im in the market for a new vehicle, and i wanted to see if people thought the fusion was better than the accord, i am a fan of foreign vehicles like honda, because my last vehicle was a honda accord, and it has 270000 miles on it and its in good shape, but its time to let her go, so what do you all think i should do? stay a honda zombie or upgrade to domestic?

From what I hear, some of the new Fords, including the Fusion are markedly improved from years past. That being said, Honda has a long reputation of producing extremely reliable and dependable vehicles.

So, think of it this way...Ford has good cars but is building on past vehicles of poor quality. Honda also has good cars and is building on past vehicles that were already good.

Honda is the easy choice. As you know from expeirence, they're life expectancy is forever.

The Ford Fusion is based on the Mazda 626 Platfrom which has been a great success and proved a good vehicle. The exterior is quite handsome, the drivetrain solid, but the interior is not up to par with some of the competition. The Honda Accord is still the benchmark in 4 Door sedans and has proven to have great resale value, very good interior quality, decent performance and gas mileage in the 4 cylinder version. The V6 offers excellent performance for the price. Make sure you look at the All new 2008 Accord coming out this fall, which is a stunner and a new direction in Honda styling.

I have never owned a Honda, so I cannot really make an informed comment on them, but I am the proud owner of a marvelous new 2007 Ford Fusion V6 SEL, and I can honestly say this car is great. The quality is excellent and I have not been able to find even the tiniest flaw on it as far as fit and finish or mechanically speaking. It is a beautiful looking car and is quite fun to drive.

I picked mine up at the top trim level, fully loaded, except no moonroof or navigation, for $24,300. Can you get a V6 Accord outfitted at their high end trim level for that price? I don't know.

Some of the pluses:
1. Incredibly roomy. It's classified as a mid-size, but has tons of leg room front and back, even with the front seats pushed all the way back.
2. Big roomy trunk. Far bigger than the Accord. Also has split fold down rear seats to make the trunk even bigger if need be.
3. Just plain fun to drive. Very sporty feeling.
4. The car is very attractively designed. Not just another bland Camry or Accord that makes up every 3rd car on the road.
5. The designers took time to think up a lot of little conveniences, like personal reading lights for all 4 passengers, and extra storage spaces inside the car.

There are two things that I do not like about the Fusion.

1. The turning radius is quite large. I've been driving mine for 2 weeks, and I've still not quite gotten used to it, compared to my Buick, which had a smaller turning radius even though it's as large or larger than the Fusion.

2. The gas milage sucks. Throw those EPA ratings out the window. I drive 50% expressway and 50% city, and I'm averaging 18 miles a gallon. City is supposed to be 20 and average is supposed to be 23. I'm not alone in this. If you go to FordFusion.net and look at the forums, you'll see several others mention this. Now admittedly, we are new owners and maybe the milage will improve as it gets broken in.

A lot of your answers have bad mouthed the Fusion. They say they are unreliable. Well, Consumer Reports in their April car issue gave it their top rating in predicted reliability. They also gave it their top rating in safety. And it's no secret that Consumer Reports has historically been very hard on domestic cars.

Car & Driver also ran two competitions with the Fusion competing against the Camry and Accord. The Fusion was preferred by the majority of drivers both times. See the link below.

Engine reliability is not rocket science. It's just about the most reliable part of a car. Give it regular maintenance and frequent oil changes and most engines made in the last 20 years will be just fine, regardless of whether they are Ford, Toyota or Honda. Only 1 of my 4 previous cars had the engine die, and that was my fault because I changed the oil only like every 20,000 and let the oil level get low all the time. Even that engine got 138k before it went to the junkyard. And that was on a 1979 Ford Pinto!!! All of my cars have been domestics and none of the others have ever had an engine give me less than 100% reliable service with just regular maintenance and frequent oil changes.

The Honda may be better, but do yourself a favor and stop by the Ford dealer before buying and test drive the Fusion. Make an informed decision.

Lastly, if you have any notion that buying the Ford is better for the US economy, forget it. Fusions are assembled in Mexico. I'm not sure, but I think many Accords are assembled in the USA. Just buy what you like the best.

The Honda Accord has been on Car and Drivers 10 best list for something like 17 or 18 years in a row... It's hard to argue with that kind of record. Honda's also have the best resale values of any maker and are tops in terms of reliability. There isn't much to complain about. The Fusion may be an excellent car, but it's brand new. It has no track record to go on.

you KNOW that the honda will be excellent in virtually all catagories. The only thing the Fusion offers over the accord is available all wheel drive.

Honda and Toyota have a higher resale value ONLY because they do not allow Fleet Purchasing. NO OTHER REASON. I have seen all makes of vehicles turn to lemons. Thats why there is a Lemon Law, not because of only domestic cars. get real people.

The Fusion is not an all new vehicle. Ford has been using that V6 for years as well as the 4 cylinder. the only thing new about the car is the body and transmission. I have not heard of any major probs with the transmission yet.

Honda... not very comfortable. very economical feel of seats and doors. Reliable? yeah. as long as you service your vehicle regularly it will be reliable. that goes for all vehicles.

i have serviced fords with well over 200k on them. i have serviced hondas with well over 200k on them. both are owned by responsible people who understand how important it is to service a vehicle. all it comes down to, is which one do you like more?

To begin with i think ford has come up with something really promising in the ford fusion, great styling, good handling and ride but they are fairly new so whether it will do well in the long run is still a question, whereas the honda accord has established a track record of reliability, its a big purchase it will be way too risky if buy something that has no record of reliability, just think about it

I wouldn't say you're a zombie if you drive a Honda. The Accords in the V6 version are performance cars. They'll smoke a Fusion. I would stick with the Honda - the Fusion to me is a 2007 Tempo.

i like Honda's better than fords but the Fusion is based on the masda 6 and is priced way below the accord the accord ex-L v6 is around 27000 the Toyota Camry XLE V6 is about 28000 and v6 AWD fusion sel 24000 i would be seriously considering the ford honestly (never thought i would say that)

Domestic would definitely be a huge downgrade. Ford's have a much lower customer satisfaction than Hondas or Toyotas. And speaking for myself, I bought a new Ford once and it was really a lemon. The service at the Ford dealer was also terrible. Stay with what works. Get a Honda or a Toyota.

Since your Honda is built in Ohio, it is really an American Car.
Ive have both a Ford (Edge) and a Honda (Acura RL).
Both are great cars. I have no problem with ford QC. The Honda is going to cost more, but will also resell better.
