Well, my mom, who runs a Southeastern Virgiia-based pest-control company, has an annoying tendency to call me outside of work hours to talk about work. I am a secretary working in her office. I just want to respectfully find a way to curb all the work talk when I'm not at work. It gets difficult drawing the line btween mom and boss.

I have to do this ALL the time. What I tell my clients and candidates is that I have select times which I can be reached.
In my industry there are crucial times to NOT be on the phone with people I already have talked, and be on the phoen with those with new clientel and candidates. those times are the times I make money.
I simply tell them this..
"hey, I cannot receive calls between 8:30-11:30, and 12:30-4:00, you can call me any time between that. I also have my cell phone on after work, so I can better assist you in your needs"

People are pretty understanding with that.

My suggestion would be to have multiple phones. You could have a phone that is specifically dedicated as your "work phone" and turn it off when you leave work everyday. Although with your parents this may be a bit of a problem since they would probably already have/want the number to your non-work phone. So maybe the best way to handle the situation is to have an adult conversation with them and let them know how you are feeling about your current situation.

Let me get this straight. You work for your parents and you want to limit the cellular device use - which pertains to your job? If your job is important to you and you have to use a cellular device, then based on this information only (and am quite perplexed as to "what it is exactly that you do") I can only suggest that you speak with your boss(es) aka Mom and Dad and ask them to find a more efficient way of conducting their business - but approach your boss(es) with at least one alternative to the cellular device for their consideration. Hopefully they won't fire you.

Best of Luck with the Boss(es)!

well, the big issue is why do you want to limit this use? Are you trying to cut back on your working hours? Are you trying to save money? What kind of work do you do, and what kind of urgency is involved when trying to reach you? Too many unknowns, but if you are an adult employee, you do what any employee does, wether they work for mom and dad or not- if problems arise, you sit with the bosses and hash things out- and both sides (them too!) approach things professionally.

If the use pertains to your job, get itemized bills and show them to your parents. If you can communicate to them properly, they should understand.
