I'm sorry to dash any hopes you had on guessing your baby's sex but my son had a high heartbeat. Everyone in the hospital was convinced that it was a girl but low and behold.....it's a boy!!

On average, my midwife told me girls have faster heartbeats and boys have slower.
My first baby, a boy, was in the 130's. My second baby, a girl, was in the 140's and 150's and my third baby, a girl, was in the 130's (just like my son).
So nothing is failproof, I guess, but maybe it's true that the heartbeat rate does "tend" to be one way or the other.

My baby's heartbeat has been all over the place. At first it was 160 and it has been dropping ever since then. At my appointment yesterday it was 130, I am now 34 weeks. It is a boy!

Well like everyone has said, the wives tale would lead you to believe your having a boy. My babys heartbeat is always around 130-135 , but Im having a little girl :)

They MYTH is that the heart rate for girls is 140-160 and for boys 120-140. However, it is just that - a myth. My daughter's heart fluctuated from 133 to 160. I am 19 weeks pregnant again and this baby's heart rate has fluctuated from 136 to 160. I wouldn't count on the heartbeat to determine the sex. Best wishes for a healthy baby.

The lower heartbeat's usually mean its a boy...if its over 150 its usually a girl...but in saying that if a girl is sleeping its heartrate is usually slower. Its hit and miss guessing by the heartbeat.

When I was born, 3 doctors told my mom that I was a boy because they went based on heart rate back then. I'm not sure what it was. My mom said my heart rate was 160 at first and then gradually got slower as I grew (which is normal). So, I don't think there is really any way for the sex to be determined based on heart rate. I think there is an old wive's tale associated with this....slower=girl, faster=boy. Don't take my word for it though! I'm having a boy in June and his heart rate was 152 on my last appointment.
PS...I'm a girl.

Im pregnant with girl this time around her baseline is 147. My boys were born 11 and 9 yrs ago, I dont remember what their baselines were. The wives tale states the higher the BPM the more likely its a girl. Hope it helps a bit.
