the parking brake cable is too short inside the drum how do I get some extra length?

It's an 84 bronco II. there is also a little bit of slack in the main cable if I get the length in the drums right will it pull the slack out of the rest of the cable?

There should 5 - 7" exposed. If the spring around the cable looks as though it is compressed the cable has rusted within its casing. Replace both parking brake cables.
