Liquor store boxes are EXCELLENT b/c they're designed to be sturdy (for glass), often have interior dividers, and frequently have cutouts usable as "handles". I'd strongly recommend scouting out a couple of local licquor stores and asking if you can take their empty boxes off of their hands for them.

I've moved far more times than I can count, and I've used liquor store boxes almost every time.

Regards,
~M~

Used boxes are every where. New boxes will cost, and that's great if you have the money to spend, but I cant understand why you would spend a great deal of money when most people throw them in the trash when they are done moving. You asked for the BEST boxes. I know of only one place and that is Citizen Watch company in Torrance. They have different sizes and what makes them the best is all the boxes are lined with wood. So your precious stuff doesn't get broke and damaged like using regular boxes. They don't get their sides smashed like regular cardboard boxes when your moving. Good luck.

I don't know the best place but I do know that they will cost you a pretty penny where ever you get them if you purchase them. If you're using movers, talk to them about what they want you to use. Some companies will only accept their own boxes because they're of uniform size and sturdy and this makes stacking the boxes easier. Let the company pack the valuable items, such as China, crystal, and electronics. Some companies will only be responsible for items that they pack themselves if they are damaged. If you're packing and moving yourself in a U-Haul or a pick-up truck, grocery stores and liquor stores are good options. Boxes for things like detergent or bottled products are sometimes divided and sturdier than standard boxes. They're also small enough that you can pack heavier items in them easily so they won't be too heavy to move but not so small that you can't get anything in them.

Check out industrial supply businesses. Some may not sell retail, but many do. Just be sure you can get the weight of boxes you want. You don't want lightweight ones. They are usually sold in bundles of 25 - 100 boxes of a given size.

I sold Avon for about 15 years and I used to have tons of sturdy boxes with lids.If you know someone who sells it they may just give you a bunch just to get rid of them cause that's what I did a few times.

Find out if you have any local freecycle or give away Yahoo groups to subscribe to. Here in the DFW area, people are always giving away moving boxes just to clear space.

I would go the grocery store and ask them for some free ones. Either that or go to U haul and buy some. They have a good selection.

U-Haul is a little expensive but they allow to return any unused boxes for a refund.

Go to Home Depot or a u-haul store, they sell brand new boxes for dirt cheap.

eBay sells packing supplies. Look here:
