ahhh....good question! For many people it is trying to keep up with the Jone's and most that get caught up in that are folks that quickly move beyond their means....they get deeper and deeper in debt and then have to work harder and harder. All of which creates additional issues leading to greater unhappiness....time away from family, inability to provide, bills and bill collectors, fighting about money and everything connected to it...and on an on......For others, I do believe it is something much more basic and completely within themselves....I think many people just never develop the appropriate coping skills to handle life...as a result, they never feel as though they fit or measure up ...they don't know what to do to achieve and end up doing nothing but complaining about the cards they were dealt.....and now I'll stop because I'm running out of letters........xO

I feel like the biggest obstacle is actually loving ones self. It's really hard to love yourself especially if everyone else is tearing you don't. And when I say love yourself I don't mean just your appearance, I mean all of you. Just because you have the most money or the biggest house, the prettiest hair or the nicest body you can still be unhappy with yourself. Comparing yourself to others can deteriorate your personal love because you feel like you don't stand up to everyone else.

You are right, the biggest obstacle to one's happiness is one's self. We are always getting in our own way, wondering if what we are about to do is OK with our peers, parents or siblings. If we could just be concerned with what we want and what is best for us, we would be much happier. But lets face it, the opinions of our parents, brothers and sisters and peers are important to us also, sometimes more so than ourselves. Kind of a catch 22 type of thing.

The only obstacle to a persons happiness is themselves. Happy people choose to be that way. The reverse is also true.

YOU are the only one that can control being happy. I think people live there life on "luck" and expect others to make them happy. Luck is what you make of it. Others can only make you happy if you allow them too. Only you can make yourself happy. Always looking at the positive things in life, even if it is bad, you will always have a happy life.
My husband and I used to have tons of credit cards which caused us to always be broke. He has a great job, I dont work, we have no children, two spoiled dogs, my family has its ups and downs but overall we all have our health. I used to be really unhappy about not having tons of money... it was always an issue, always a stress.... one day, like it says in my profile, I thought to myself...if I dont make myself happy who will? I am the only one who will allow myself to be happy, why am I turning my back? I looked back at my life, at the positive things... a great husband, my family, my dogs, my home... and i realized that "I AM" making myself un-happy. It's not so bad, not having money isnt the worst thing.. I have a roof over my head, a blanket at night, food on the table.
Life is only what you make of it. If you choose to be negative, if you choose to compare yourself to others and not accept who you are and what you have you will live a negative life which in return calls for unhappiness. If you choose to be positive, no matter what the case may be... you will be happy, you will always look at the brighter side and smile.
