I want to take a solid white '99 Monte Carlo and get it painted jet black. Will the fact that it's white now cause problems and thereby make painting it black more expensive? How much should it cost?

I live in Austin, TX if location makes any difference.

if your wanting it done right and with quality materials don't be shock when a good shop gives you an estimate around 2500 or so. A good base coat clear coat black will set you back about 3 to 400 just for paint and then you've got sandpaper paint filler, not to mention labor to do this plus extra labor since your doing a color change it'll have to be jammed in to look right

expect to pay more for a darker color. If there is any body damage such as dents or rust, it will have to be fixed before the paint job is done. Also different brands of paint can cost more. If you want something metallic it will cost more..

Expect to spend more than a grand. Painting a vehicle a dark color will show any imperfection. You may have to spend a little more on preparation in order you get the look you desire.

it depends on where you go, and what quality you get. Maaco has specials for as low as $229.
