I am 35 weeks pregnant. I went to the doctor a week and a half ago and I had gained 25 pounds for my whole pregnancy. I hadn't gained anything at all in the two weeks since I had last been. My eating habits haven't changed at all this past week and a half. I weighed myself this morning and I have gained 5 pounds since my last doctor's appointment!!!!!! What could this be from??? Does it signal a problem???

My blood pressure has been great the whole time, so I don't think it would be that.

Not to worry!
Late in pregnancy, your baby is putting on extra pounds fast, the last couple of weeks is when they bulk on some fat before delivery. You may not be eating anymore or any less and will still gain the weight, because it's your baby putting them on not really you.
Also remember your body has other functions going on those last few weeks, your breasts are getting ready to produce milk, your body may be holding a bit more water even keeping as hydrated as possible for when the day comes and you pretty much lose alot within just a few hours.
As long as your healthy and seeing how you've been going to your appt. Your in good shape, you've gotten the good additional pounds you needed and now baby is doing just the same.
Unless there are signs , sudden ones you've never had before, sudden headaches, mild to severe, odd cramps, sharp ones even. Remember at this point you also may be getting cramps from the braxton hicks your body is going to be having those more frequent (some don't) These are mild, like your menstral cramps and go away, are not regular at all! So be careful to listen to what your body is telling you. ALl else fails if you just don't know the difference call your doctors office and talk to a nurse there or your doctor, decribe just what they feel like and I bet they'd tell you what they are.
I'm not doctor, so don't take the answer as one, but I do think what you have is nothing at all to be worried about. Both your body and babies is getting ready for big day, it's very normal for you to gain some extra pounds out of nowhere, and it's even common to lose some in the last few weeks. Whether you suddenly get tired or are reeling with energy it's different for everyone. Next visit to your doctors don't hesitate to ask them!

Hope something helped.
Congrats, just a little bit more and you'll be smiling down at one cute baby!

Rapid Weight Gain During Pregnancy

2016-10-01 10:09:04 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I'm there with you! My last appt I was 35 weeks, and it had been 2 weeks since my last appt. I had gained 8 pounds!!! Prior to that day I had gained 23 pounds for the whole pregnancy. My advice to you is that if your doctor wasn't concerned you shouldn't be either. There are many possible reasons for this weight gain. The baby is growing quickly at this point, gaining weight and preparing for birth, constipation is a big thing this far along in pregnancy, and if its been awhile since your last bowel movement, you may have gained some of the weight from this. Also possible that you are just retaining fluid, also common. Was your blood pressure OK? Also if you are less active now because of your size, or energy level, but still eating the way you were before, then you might have picked up some weight here as well. Likely your weight gain, and mine, was a combination of these things and like I said, if your doctor wasn't worried, you shouldn't either. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and delivery!

First of all, don't panic because your scale may differ from your doctor's and what you were wearing at both times will make a difference, too.

So the weight difference might only be 2 pounds rather than 5 pounds, which is nothing to worry about. If you want to put your mind at east, call your doc and ask if you can go in simply so the nurse can weigh you on their scale.

If it's true your weight is picking up a little again, that could simply be due to water weight which sometimes comes on near the end. Also, some babies put on more weight at the end of the pregnancy rather than in the 1st or 2nd trimesters.

As long as you are feeling well, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. With my first pregnancy I hardley gained any weight until the very end. I gained 11 pounds in one month putting me over the 30 lbs mark when I was around 8 months pregnant. Everyone gains weight differently. The sudden weight gain took me by surprise at the end, but all was fine. It wasn't me gaining the weight it was my beautiful baby all 9lbs 7oz of him (perfectly healthy no diabetes). You should be fine and be glad that you didn't gain a ton of weight throughout the rest of your pregnancy. The second time I only gained 24 lbs with a healthy 8 lb 8 oz baby boy. The body just acts different with each pregnancy.

Good luck! I wish you a happy and safe delivery. Oh, and if this is your 1st baby... I totally recommend checking out Peanut Little www.peanutlittle.com as they have an amazing Postpartum Care Package with tons of goodies. I received on and have given a few. As a first time mom I had no idea what I would need for myself after delivery, luckily I had the postpartum care package to help me out. It is a little pricy, but well worth it. I bet your hubby or mom would love to give it to you as a gift!

5 lbs in a week at the end?? Girl - you are doing good according to my stats! I gained 70+ lbs with my son, so I'm sure I had some 5 lb weeks! LOL! (thankfully I lost it ALL)! I wouldn't think anything is wrong, these are the weeks that the baby REALLY grows. Then again, remember your scale is different from the doctor's scale so the number may just be off. Don't worry, you're doing great on weight gain! Unless the doctor says something, you shouldn't worry.

I did the same thing. I only gained a little bit of weight for the first 9 months, but in the last few weeks I gained alot. The only time this may be a problem is if the doctor becomes afraid that the weight gain could cause your baby to be too big to deliver. That's what happened to me so the doctor admitted me to the hospital and induced me. But don't panic about it. Just talk to your doctor and see what they think.

No, this does not signal a problem. I also gained a lot of weight at the end of my pregnancy (all of the books say you'll slow down towards the final weeks, but I did not). My doctor told me not to be concerned and that they look at overall weight gain, not weight gained in the final weeks. You'll most likely fluctuate during these last weeks. Ask your doctor at your next visit for extra reassurance. Good luck with your delivery!

i have a six month old and when i was pregnant i gained a total of 19 pounds until my eighth month. during the last month of pregnancy i gained an additional 11 pounds. my doctor said that it was ok because i had gained so little, but that i just needed to make sure that iw as eating healthy (which I was). i'm sure you are fine and you are going to the doctor ever week now, so they will keep an eye on you. remember, your doctor has probably been doing this for a long time, so just trust them! Good Luck!
