Don't stress. My first baby was 9lbs 7oz and I had him vaginally. There ultrasounds are not always accurate, there is always a degree of error. My doc said it could be as much as a whole pound off. So, I would NOT rush for an induction. I delivered my son 6 days late with the help of an induction and it was the most painful experience ever!!! Everyone I talk to that has had an induction decides to wait it out when baby #2 comes around. I went into labor on my own with my second son and the labor was sooooo.... much more pleasant!!! I will never get an induction again unless there is a medical reason to do so. I am only 5ft 4in and typically weigh around 128 lbs when not pregnant. I was 25 when I delivered my first son and my doc said a 25 year old could push anything out. She was right, but I sure do wish I had given myself a few more days to go into labor on my own. Oh, and my son was a very big baby but completely healthy, no diabetes or anything. He is almost 3 and is constantly in the 95th% for his age.
Good luck with your delivery!!!
Oh, and if this is your first baby you should have your mom or hubby order you a Postpartum Care Package from Peanut Little www.peanutlittle.com. It is filled with all kinds of great products that you’ll need after delivery, especially if you deliver a big baby.

I had a friend who was just induced at 38 weeks. She is a very small girl who was in an accident about 7 years ago that put a rod in her hips. The doctor was worried about the size of the baby and the size of her so she induced her early. The baby ended up only weighing just over 5 lbs, luckly he was healthy!

Every doctor is different. If you feel uncomforable with the size of the baby by your 39th week, tell the doctor you want to be induced right at the 40th week mark. Some docs won't suggest an induction but will be more than willing to do one if you request it, as long as you've reached the 40th week.
PS your baby will realy only be about 9 1/2 lbs by week 40. I delivered a 9 1/2 lb baby 6 weeks ago and it was fine. I promise .:)
Best wishes.

While I have heard of people being induced because of the large size of their babies - typically they won't do it until you are at least 38 weeks to ensure that the baby's lungs are developed enough. (My doctor told me about the lungs at my last appointment.)
With my first child - I was 40 weeks pregnant & they wouldn't induce me - even though he was large. I had him vaginally and he weighed 9lbs 3oz. So they don't always induce due to size - I think it depends on your doctor.
7lbs 4 oz is a good healthy size - but not too large yet. I think the baby gains between half a pound and pound per week now.

It's up to the doctor, but most docs will not induce before 38 weeks mostly due to immature lungs in babies born sooner than 38 weeks. Ultrasounds a lot of time are wrong about the weights of babies. I wouldn't worry about it. It's quite possible to give birth even to a 9 lb baby

The baby should gain about 1/2 lb per week now. Please remember ultrasounds are not the most accurate when giving approximate weights! When I was preggo, I had gestational diabetes, which required me to have an ultrasound weekly at the end of my pregnancy. The tech and the doc told me that it's just a 'ballpark' guess, and it can be up to a pound off, give or take!! Don't freak yourself out, thousands of women deliver 8 - 9 pound babies everyday!! Good Luck to you!!

One, they can't know for sure exactly how much the baby weighs. Just a rough idea.
Why can't you do a C-section. If the baby really gets big before hand, you might have to.
If they think the baby is healthy enough, they might induce labor a little early.
You really need to talk to your doctor.

Your doctor will most likely want to wait until closer to your due date to induce, and you will most likely have a large baby. Only your doctor can answer that question. Even another obstetrician can't answer that question since he or she doesn't know anything about your case.
My sister gave birth to two babies that were close to 11 pounds and her third was 9 pounds. Mine were both slightly under 9 pounds. She had natural childbirth. I needed C-sections. You never know.

I learn Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It even involves the sporting activities you must train. I additionally learn The Brewer Medical Diet for Normal and High-Risk Pregnancy. I adopted the Brewer vitamin while I was once pregnant. I used the Bradley approach with all 4 of my births. I additionally learn Husband Coached Childbirth, however that publication does now not include what you must train to get in a position for beginning.
