A doctorate is a DEGREE, and can be in education, business, economics, or alot of other fields. You gain the title of doctor when you receive a doctorate. College professors etc.

A doctor is a PROFESSION that holds the degree of MD (Medical Doctor) or DO (Doctor of Osteopathy)

Wrong.

If you are talking about Medical Doctor -- then you need an MD or a DO to practice medicine in the US. Both are doctorates.
