In May there is a talent competition at my high school and I REALLY want to enter. All my friends say I'm a really good singer, but I'm not so convinced, I think I'm alright. Can anyone think of a coupl of songs for me what will show off my vocal talent but I will feel comfortable sing? Please help, I'm 13 and I like pop and r 'n' b and stuff like that. I can do high notes but not notes that are too low. I was thinking; My Immortal by Evanescence, Satisfaction by Britney Spears or What A Feeling by Irene Cara, but what does everyone here think. Thanks in advance xXx

When it comes to these types of competitions, the most importnat thing is song choice. You want to pick a song that has universal appeal and is familiar to everyone- students AND teachers. Also, it is important to be confident in your ability to sing a particular song before you get up there. Don't pick any songs where you can pull it off SOME of the time, but other times you're struggling to hit the right notes. I think any sort of pop tune from the 80's or 90's, that everybody knows and loves, would be your best choice. Here are some ideas:

What A Feeling (like you said)
Walking on Sunshine- Katrina and the Waves
Hit Me With Your Best Shot- Pat Benatar
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun- Cyndi Lauper

You can download any of these songs if you want to hear them. Good luck to you!!!!

Grace Kelly - Mika, in case you could pull that off you have super vocals. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley, less difficult than Grace Kelly and an extremely great music. The Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog ( Or Sarach Mclachlan), the sweetest music ever which will win over your objective audience's coronary heart.
