Why is it that during my last teenage years I lose awareness of my environment and who I am constantly? I use to have such motivation and such an awareness of the things that happened around me. I was awake. These months, I drift into my own world. Don't learn much of anything, just sit still. Why is it that there are lack of words to express how humans truly feel. I am distant from the world and don't learn as quickly as I use to. The world is always defining us, as we do here on yahoo answers by a few words typed on the screen. Is there no answer to anything? People don't understand me and I don't understand myself. When I do have awareness, I have confidence, and all the good stuff, I have understanding, things don't bother me as much, I can achieve more than anyone else can achieve. I am pure emotion. Emotions and an imagination that takes me away.

In biological psychology, awareness comprises a human's or an animal's perception and cognitive reaction to a condition or event. Awareness does not necessarily imply understanding, just an ability to be conscious of, feel or perceive.

Awareness is a relative concept. An animal may be partially aware, may be subconsciously aware, or may be acutely aware of an event. Awareness may be focused on an internal state, such as a visceral feeling, or on external events by way of sensory perception. Awareness provides the raw material from which animals develop qualia, or subjective ideas about their experience.

Researchers have debated what minimal components are necessary for animals to be aware of environmental stimuli, though all animals have some capacity for acute reactive behavior that implies a faculty for awareness.

Popular ideas about consciousness suggest the phenomenon describes a condition of being aware of one's awareness. Efforts to describe consciousness in neurological terms have focused on describing networks in the brain that develop awareness of the qualia developed by other networks.

Neural systems that regulate attention serve to attenuate awareness among complex animals whose central and peripheral nervous system provides more information than cognitive areas of the brain can assimilate. Within an attenuated system of awareness, a mind might be aware of much more than is being contemplated in a focused extended consciousness.

When a patient goes for a surgical operation, it is desirable to temporarily make the patient unaware. Anaesthesiologists specialise in this and a major responsibility is to prevent awareness during the operation. This is achieved by giving anesthetic drugs through the veins and through the lungs.

Not to diagnose but,you sound Bipolar like me.It's an illness that is ruled by emotions and if we are 'manic' side--we are very confident, content, energetic. But,if it continues to climb we become confused, sometimes paranoid, out of focus. On the way back down,we become depressed,listless,lethargic,hopeless...Sometimes we have mixed states which is energetic but depressed. If we're lucky we have normal emotions like everyone else and can get off our emotional roller-coasters.We feel unique, weird, and misunderstood. That's why there are meds, therapists, and support groups because suicide is over 20%.Even though emotions are temporary and pass,to us the bad ones stay longer.Hopefully, you are just going through a 'phase' in life, because there is no cure for having Bipolar Disorder.LOL.

perhaps you are in a "shut down" phase, before a new development,,,,, or perhaps this phase is a development in itself,,,, not a permanent one,,,, but just a time for you body to tune inwards, not outwards,,,,

you have spent all of these years of constant awareness and learning, its normal for the brain and body to take a break
also, the "you" that you are,,,, constantly goes threw changes, especially in the early adult years, so its common to question and sometimes feel that you dont know yourself,,,, as you are creating your adult self
