ads on a .org website?

is it ok ( or conventional) to have ads on a .org website? i know most .org website are for non profit, but what happens if money is needed to run the website?

On our .org site, strictly not-for-profit, we were *forbidden* to have ads. (In our case, money-garnering ads, like through Google Adsense...) - check with your state laws!
