Generally Male tigers, Siberian and Bengal, get larger than African male lions. There are exceptions. I worked for 7 years at a big cat rescue and we had a male lion who weighed over 600lbs and he wasn't fat. We had 15 Siberian males and the heaviest was a little over 500lbs. Also, Siberian tigers are a bit fluffy, if you've ever pet one, which I have, your hand can almost disappear into their winter coat, it's so pouffy. African lions have extremely short hair. As for who would win in a fight, it depends on a lot of factors. Tiger vs tiger fights usually end with little damage to either opponent. Usually the biggest cat wins just because he is bigger as they are wary of getting hurt. Lion vs lion fights, on the other hand, tend to be a lot nastier and they get way more physical. Take a look at pics of older male lions and they are usually pretty scarred up. If two animals are cruelly thrown together in a cage and forced to fight, as can be seen in videos on youtube, usually the heavier animal wins. But in the wild, if the two were to meet, which they do in the Gir forests of India, the lion would come out the winner most of the time just because they are more experienced fighters and tigers would want to avoid such types of altercations alltogether. Tiger fights are mostly for show and bluff and lion fights are generally the real thing. Physically, tigers are much leaner than lions, who are rather compactly muscled. Tigers are longer on the most part but lions can be taller at the shoulder.

Lions can get as heavy as 500 pounds. The largest Siberian tiger caught weighed 925 pounds. I am a member of a santuary for wild animals - we get tigers, lions, cougars, bears, wolves, a camel, some pot-belly pigs, among some other animals. Members bring whatever they can - fencing, food, bricks, etc., as well as tires and balls and toys for the big cats. (see 'Valley of the Kings" www.votk.com.) Anyway, one of the tigers is a Siberian tiger - maybe 800 pounds. He had a bowling ball in his cage and one day while I was there he bit the bowling ball in half. It was amazing - he was only playing with it in his mouth.
