Tanning is tacky, tanned skin is a dated look. Pale is in. If you want to wrinkle prematurely and look like a wrinkled cougar by the time you hit 30 than get in a tanning bed. If not, cover up, wear sunscreen and be nice to your skin.

using a tanning bed in your 20s or younger even just once will put you at a 75% risk for a melanoma which could become cancer. tanning beds are not worth the risk. self tanner is the way to go. i use the dove energy glow moisturizer which builds up to a nice tan. also, spray on tans are good, but i find the lotion easier to use.

If you burn easily from the sun, tanning beds aren't a good idea. I would try a sunless tan from a tanning salon or spa. Mystic tan is a good one and so is Hollywood tan. You basically stand in a booth and get sprayed in 10 second intervals from head to toe. The color lasts for 7-10 days.
I wouldn't go too dark though because you can look orange.

Or I would try Jergens Healthy Glow. It's a lotion with sunless tanner in it that slowly colors the skin over a week or so period. They have it for your face too.

Tanning bed...the one I use is a "megabed", has air conditioning, ionizer, aromatheraphy, I started out at 3 minutes, worked up to 10 minutes max and after 9 sessions, I have a beautiful tan. I've used those self tanning lotions in the past and all of them streaked.

Self-tan spray....Neutrogena has a great one. I spent many years in the tanning bed when I was younger and my skin has the appearance of being that of a long time smoker. Gotta go with the spray!

If you really feel that you need to have color opt for the self tanning stuff. I can tell you from my own personal experience that even the mildest form of melanoma is not fun.
