What do you think of it all? My problem comes in where if he would have been calling a bunch of white girls some blonde bimbos or something, he would still have a job and everything would be cool.

Imus is being offered up as the "sacrificial lamb" the mainstream media bowed to the wishes of true racists like Sharpton and Jackson. Stern got away with SOOO much more for many years. Bottom line is that if the sponsors didn't pull out and CBS was still going to make 15 million a year off of Imus, he would still have a job.

It works both ways. Just as the threat to boycott these sponsors like Staples and the rest who've pulled out their advertising has worked maybe the people who think that the firing was wrong should boycott the same advertisers. If the people who disagree with the decision to fire Imus would do that, you would really see who spends their money at such places.

It is mostly people who are educated enough to see this situation for what it really is. Just another chance for 8 young girls to play the victim and hit the talk show circuit, and a chance for Jackson and Sharpton to get the spotlight once again.

I totally agree. No, should have NOT said what he did. No one should.. But you are absolutely correct, if he said, "Those are some dingy blonde bimbos" or something like that., he would still be on the air today. I think the 2 week suspension was appropriate. I don't think he should have been fired. By the way, if what he said was so reprehensible, why is it being freely repeated by every news and entertainment show? Every time it is said, we are becoming more desensitized to the phrase. Why the double standard. I guess the same reason we don't have a Miss White USA pageant but there is a Miss Black USA (or something like that). Try to start one and see how long it takes Al Sharpton to come running!

i find it extremely odd that imus is in this situation instead of howard stern. i used to receive the morning show here about 10 years or so ago. never missed it. then e! came around and i would watch the television show. the tv show never compared to the content of the radio program. the radio program was live and played from start to finish whereas the tv show only had segments of what they deemed watchable.

i can not tell you how many times i heard derogatory comments and racial epithets! never to be condemned by management. granted, he would be fined by the fcc, but never a punishment from his superiors. so how is it that imus has been given the axe? and for what? a bunch of college no ones that will hopefully amount to something as they will never complete in anything athletic once school ends.

the bottom line is this and scary: caucasians need to be VERY careful when speaking ill outside of their race, specifically african americans. you mentioned the use of 'bimbos'. i have heard that used millions of times with no repercussions. whether in general or pointing out someone specifically. but the moment a caucasian says something directed toward an african american, watch out cuz you are opening pandora's box. the african americans use these words amongst themselves, nothing. latinos call each other racial epithets, nothing. whiteys really don't call each other anything racial, just cuss each other out. and blacks & latins can call each other slurs, no major deal. but once whitey says something ethnic against the blacks, here comes sharpton, jackson, naacp, and even johnny cochrane is scratching himself out of the grave to point out the injustice.

imus should not have said that. he should have known better because of the times we are in. and now he gets to think about this until the next gig he gets. sorry to say, but it is a hard learning experience. sometimes it's ok to think it and just not say it (really shouldn't think it at all, but people are people and i believe there is prejudice in all of us. if there wasn't, how can you distinguish between races without saying black, white, brown, yellow, red. it's just part of our society. goes with being a melting pot i guess.

i'm tired now. sorry so long! :(

About a year ago, a Radio VJ in New York, who happen to be a black woman. Stated on her show that she doesn't like white people and was fired. It's one thing to disrespect people who put out an image of disrespect. Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, etc. But these were women in no way, shape, or form were disrespecting themselves as would most of these Video chicks these low life rappers rap about.

Basically he lost his job because MSNBC was loosing all of it's sponsors. It is all about politics and money.

It is also a double standard. In that case, well then the record companies should be penalized and sued also. The words should be banned from radio, tv and music, etc. It shouldn't stop here, do it all across the board.

look who consents with you, the guy with the dunce cap who sounds like a eco-friendly klan nut-case. What does that inform you about your perspectives on the imus problem? i'm ill of those previous white adult adult males using racist and sexist, women persons-hating slurs adversarial to youthful black and white women persons. those women persons are doing a marvelous activity being pupil athletes and all this jerk can remark about is how he thinks they look! he's an gruesome previous dried up prune-who's he to communicate?

I think the firing is rediculous. Minorities always get away with saying things about whites.

One white guys says something about a minority, and all hell breaks loose.

And specifically, he never said "black". He did not specify race. There are a couple white girls on that team too.

My point of view is that he was hired as a shock jock so what did they expect of him?? He says outrageous stuff about EVERYBODY, that's his job. He was fired from his job for doing it. Seems unfair somehow. Especially since african american people call each other worse stuff all the time. But if a white person calls an african american something like that, they are racist and horrible. If its a racist word, then NOBODY should use it.

I don't necessarily agree with the firing, but I do believe people must be held accountable for their actions. as for your remark about blonde bimbos it may not have sparked a firing, but it would have caused some controversy.

its a double standard. its ok for Afro Americans to disrespect the women, but its not ok for White people to do so.
