Martha Reeves and the Vandellas had a song called '' Forget Me Not'' which talked about the Vietnam War. They also had a song in 1970 called '' I Should Be Proud'' that Martha herself believed that the government pressured radio stations not to play it.

Louie Louie was banned in Indiana. For a fairly definitive history timeline and list of banned/censored rock songs, check the site below.

The only three songs I knew of getting banned were "Louie Louie" (for supposidely sexy lyrics), "Let's Spend the Night Together" (again, sexy lyrics) and "They're Coming to Take Me Away" (as it is insulting to the mentally impared).

"A Boy Named Sue" had the "son of a beach" line bleeped, but aired anyway

"Why Don't We Get Drunk and [Screw]?" came out in the 70s
