I read about a flea shot, not sure if it was already out or still in development.
Any information would be appreciated...thanks.

Yes there is an injection for flea prevention, it's been around for a long time. My surgery does the one called Program (they do tablets too), but there may be others for all I know. It's a 6-monthly injection. Program is ONLY for cats tho

Please note that Program only sterilises fleas (makes them unable to reproduce), which I've never really figured out the point of, as of course you want to kill fleas that are present, not just wait for them to die of old age before your pet is free of them!

The flea injection is a preventative method only, if fleas are already present (check for dirts with a proper flea comb or get the vet to do it) you'll need a product that kills adult fleas. Then Program can be used to control flea infestations.

Here's the data sheet for Program:

Apparently there is such a shot. However, it is very new and some vets do not want to use it because of the side effects it can have.

Here's a very informative website I found on dogs and cats in general.

Yes indeed, we've been getting them for our cats for several years now. Just check with your veterinarian.
